I've only seen about 5 or 6 of his fights, but I agree from what I saw he looked like he was legit. Stopping Bazooka Gomez makes you the fucking shit in my book. Its a goddamn shame what happened to him, if I remember correctly he was only like 24 when he died. Never even got to reach his prime. Who knows how far he would have gone. Too lazy to check boxrec but I know he was like 40-something-1, imagine what his record would have looked like if he was able to finish his career.

44-1-1 with 32 ko's. He beat some great fighters, Danny Lopez (twice), Juan LaPorte, Azumah Nelson and Wilfredo Gomez. A great boxer. I remember seeing him on tv. It was a real treat to watch him. We can only guess what he would have accomplished if he hadn't died in his prime.

I cant think of another feather that could have beaten him be it Armstrong, Pep, Saddler,Saldivar or even as far back as Dixon. Interesting that you mentioned Arguello as there were talks at the time of Sal moving to 130 in Ring magazine prior to his head on with the chicken wagon.

He was a great, great artist to watch. It is very difficult to sum up in words what made him so special, he made the great and good look ordinary and was so ruthless and efficient in doing so without ever seeming to leave his own comfort zone. Not because he was not happy to trade, but because when he did, he was so much better that he often made his opponent look clumsy. They were not, he was just special.

    Sanchez was magnificent!

I think guys that would have troubled him would have been those that didn't play into his counter punching

His fight with Cowdell surprised me, I thought Sanchez would have won inside the distance

Would have love to see him against Arguello or even Lockridge

I can't believe i posted this topic all the way back in 2007, as for Pat Cowdell i remember him having a very awkward herky jerky style that off-set Salvador Sanchez's rhythm somewhat. But what a finish from Sanchez in the 15th round.

He also had a few problem's with Pat Ford, but he was incredibly tall for that weightclass. And Salvador Sanchez once again finished the fight very strong like he always did.

We did miss out on some great fights though.

    Sanchez vs Arguello/Chavez/Nelson 2/Gomez 2/Pedroza/McGuigan ETC.

I have never saw Sanchez fight but was wondering why Pat Cowdell would give anyone so great so much problems. I remember Asumah smashed Pat in a round. Maybe Asumah would have beaten him in their return because Nelson was a late replacement and certainly a novice at the time. I think JCC would have met him and beaten him.
