yeah...Tommy Hearns was a world class fighter and his jaw was made of glass....The chin is driven by genetics.....I would say that a boxer would probably have a better chance to sustain a hard shot over a MMA fighter simply do to the volume of punches....reminds me of this time a street punk wanted to fight me...I told him "I get hit upside the head 100 times a day bro...I fight everyday....and it doesn't Knock me out...when's the last time you fought or got hit more than 2 or 3 times? what the hell do you think you're gonna due to me?....I think I'm about to wup some ass! You ready?" and he turned around and left....something must have made sense to him....Originally Posted by VanChilds

It feels good to be back home.
Sorry but the question is a bit redundant since IMO you are born with the ability to take a punch or you are not. You either have a decent chin or you dont. You aren't born with an average 'chin' then it suddenly gets better or worse depending on what combat sport you choose.Originally Posted by southakron314

. But on a serious note it is something determined by genetics and there really isn't anything you can do to help it aside from strengthen neck muscles to reduce how much your neck snaps back from a punch and learning great blocking techniques.
a boxer would have a better chin I think since the punches are coming from further away and with more leverage.
I would say Mark Hunt chin is very sturdy. I dont know if I would put him with Harry Greb, Ray Robinson or Marvin Hagler. But who am I to really say that. I guess we will never know.

Its not a real feasible comparison really. You can compare individual's chins to each other but their respective sports have nothing to do with their ability to take hits.
Not to mention taking punishment throughout a long fight is different then having a strong chin. But ya, the only way to tell would be to punch each respective fighter in the face until one of them drops lol. No one will know.
That would be fun as hell.Originally Posted by Nate17
