He was WBA champ at the same time Salvador Sanchez was WBC champ. For whatevever reason, a unifier fight never came off.Originally Posted by Mr140

You wanna talk about a real champ. just check out the locations of Pedrozas fights.![]()
Nino Benvenuti
And by the way Mick i mentioned Laing because talent wise no one knows how much talent he had and threw it all away and is never mentioned now his win over Duran was a great masterclass.
IMO, that would certify him under 'wasted talent' not an underrated fighter.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
He had a great win against Duran but what else did he do?
Nothing.
what about ezzard charles
larry holmes
toney
bob foster
tommy hearns i dont know srl take his thunder
zaragoza
joel casyamor seems like every one know al the champs except for him
monzon
there more but cant think
If Charles is underrated i think that Walcott should go up there as well he remained good boxer despite his old age and he was never given the benefit of the doubt.
Good ones.Originally Posted by headson

Vargas..But perhaps more skillwise..But he could have done so much more..some say he was ruined.. But he could also have alot bigger legacy if he had padded his record fighting good fighters instead of fighting and loosing four fights to three Great fighters..
Toney.. Massively underrated..One of the many examples of the expression the only person who could defeat a guy with this much skill is himself..
Lennox is underrated for sure..Depending on how you look at it..He has got alot of attention..But between his retirement and a few more years he's still in that phase where people begin to miss him and his career will pass the test of time and he will be rated higher..
Zab Judah.. Terrifically underrated.. Maybe people just hate admitting hes a great fighter because of him as a person..Lol

Oh My God. This is next to impossible, SOOOOOOO many great fighters are underrated or unheard of today for whatever reason. So I'll just list a couple.
One of my favorite boxers ever is Ike Williams. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest lightweights of all time but you'd be hard pressed to find him on a lot of greatest lightweight list. Truly overlooked imo, but man he was such an exciting fighter. One of the more tremendous combination punchers ever.
James Toney
The guy has practically done it all, if a fighter were to boast his accomplisments Toney would be the first guy to say 'been there, done that' lol
Gene Tunney.
Very nice. He was not liked and he had the whole long count thing slight him a bit, but I think he is a top 10 great fighter of all time. And out of everybody in the top 10, he's probably talked about the least.Originally Posted by motorcitycobra
yea some elese besides me said Tunney nice post there motor dude
Ike quartey was an excellent fighter in his prime..
If he could have stuck around after his two losses and fought and beat some decent names instead of disapearing for all those years just to be back in his twighlight years now he could have had a great legacy.. Its a shame cos he wont get anywhere near the legacy he deserves..
And it shows how important a robbery like the forrest fight is on a legacy like his..
In future the fact that his record says a loss but anyone who saw the fight would know he won..
I think that robs him alot of legacy..Forrest is a great fighter and a big name and vernon doesnt have enough big wins to tell how good a fighter he is..
