Hopkins choosing Roach over every other trainer is a testament to Freddy's abilities as a trainer imo.

I'm not really too hot on his abilities to be honest. I mean apart from Manny Pacquaio none of his fighters ever win any fights

If I was a young boxer now I hate to say it but I'd entrust myself to Floyd Mayweather Sr, that's dude's fighters actually win.

trainers are like fads. Seems like a particular trainer gets notice every few years and top fighters then go to him to get him into shape.. It is the fighter who fights not the trainer.

I agree with that. Hopkins has been in the game so long and learned so much that there isnt all that much a trainer can add to his game. Hopkins knows what to do.

Yeah at this stage a new trainer isnt guna make a fighter a whole lot different . When Tyson was training for the Holyfield return they boughy Ricthie Giachetti again and tried to bring back the basics . A fighter doesnt need that at the late stage in their career . If anything it will make them worse . Hopkins has his strategy is in his head I am sure . Roach is there simply to overview it and add his slight adjustments to it .

An assertive trainer like Freddie is probably the guy I would have chosen for Hopkins at this late stage but maybe Oscar has recommended him . Either way I think Winky will be the guy going forward in this fight with Hopkins taking advantage .

I'm with the idea that it doesn't really matter, Bernard doesn't need to learn how to box.

Always felt the same with Toney and Freddie Roach. Toney didn't need to be taught how to box, he just needed Roach to make sure he came into each fight in top shape.

Didn't Toney used Billy Blanks to get him in shape for the second Peter fight? Incidentally what happens if Toney uses steroids for a 3rd time after the one year suspension?
