You really cant say they don't have a defence for thier own weapons becouse the counter kick that you throw should both slip or pairy thier kick and land with a knockout, of course when this is excecuted perfectly it makes the other guy look really bad. I really do agree with all of you that keeping a good guard is essential for fighting. but in my kickboxing matches I have never even come close to getting kicked in the head and I find that the speed and setups in tkd are much harder to see coming.

If you are trying to say that tkd fighters just stand there, then you havent seen a match ever. The kicking speed and movement in tkd is awsome but these clips just show the end result.
