There was this other guy too, I think he boxed in the '70's ...... he was a late substitute for a hevyweight title fight and and (even though it was an exhibition) he got a draw in a brutal slufest with the undisputed champ at the time. He got a proper title match after this and won, then defended his title six or seven times - although it seems that some of the opponents were handpicked by his trainer.

A young, tough fighter on the way up then agitated for a rematch and, just like Patterson against Liston, this guy belived his pwn hpe and signed to fight him but got absolutely destroyed. Unbelievably, he then hooked up with the former champ he beat and his trainer and won the rematch by boxing the the other guy.

After that, the Soviet Union somehow agreed to let their world amateur champ (dunno what happened to the Cubans) fight him, but ... and here's the catch, this guy had already killed his mentor (the former champ) and the fight had to be in Russia. In a fight reminiscent of the brutality of Ali/Frazier III, he somehow won again.

He retired, and after a bad experience trying to be a trainer, he came back for another one-off exhibition against the new champ. I think it helped that he was figting a light-hevy really and he lost the fight but acquited himself honourably.

That's such a good story, i reckon that you could get at least 6 films out of this, and they may be moderatly successful at box office?

    What do you think?

The Philippine ex-president Ferdinand Marcos. He was a pro-boxer, lawyer, then became one of the worst dictator in history.

I think you might be on to something. We need to find a leading man who's really really short though.

    And a decent title.

I think no one mentioned JJ as there has already been a film made about him. Bit of a redundant thread otherwise.

Also the title of this thread would have to be changed to "Whose Career That Has Been Made Into A Movie Would Make a Good Movie?"

He possible led the most interesting life of any boxer though....

Depending what happens in his next few fight PBF. (A heart breaking loss and a rematch win by KO would be perfect.)

Pacquaio's life. From a virtually unknown fighter to a celebrity fighter after giving a beating to MAB. His impoverished childhood will be a tear jerker.

Ali story could be like the Rocky films, first sonny liston, second Frasier, third Foreman and fifth beaten honourably by Holmes and six training Laila to become champ.

Thank you all, I will shortly be stealing all your ideas and touting a number of boxing movie scripts around the major movie companies, and if that doesn't work I'll try getting a grant from Film 4.
