Well Bilbo my response was going to be similar, we should be more worried at the fact Kessler is sparring a domestic British oath who has the handspeed of my 80 year old gran.Originally Posted by Bilbo

Kessler faster than Calzaghe. That is a ludicrous claim.
Who on earth made this claim exactly??![]()

Danish people are all virgins when it comes to having a boxer built up and hyped by promoters, because there hasn't exactly been an avalanche of top Danish boxers in recent years, has there? This guy is probably the first in living memory. Danish fans have seen Kessler in the ring against guys picked specifically to make him look good.
The problem comes when the fighter is eventually moved up in class, then the "fast hands" and "excellent technique" look average or worse. The "gifts" that the boxer showed against lesser opposition vanish. When Mikkel Kessler gets in the ring with Joe Calzaghe, Calzaghe will beat him like a red-headed stepchild. It'll end in a UD that won't be close enough for any argument after the fight and Kessler will get the Lacy post-Calzaghe who was he anyway/who did he beat who wasn't a has-been or a never-was/was never really a world-class fighter verdict from all the people picking Kessler to win.

I remember watching that fight on something called TV 1000 at my mate's house with Scandanavian commentary. I don't think anybody ever confused that guy with a world-class boxer. Handy nightclub bouncer maybe.

Which kind of proves my point. He still wasn't a world-class fighter though.Originally Posted by Fenster
I've followed Joe for as long as I can remember...maybe dodged the first year of his career & followed Kessler for the last three...no way in hell is Kessler faster than Joe...I don't give two strained shits what some second rate sparring partner says.
As to whom I think will win?
Joe...but honestly...I'd want Kess to pull it out...or atleast give a GREAT effort.
I really dig on Kessler & he's done a whole lot more than Joe has of late. The lad deserves to give a shot...but I just don't think he'll be able to against Joe & I truly don't see Joe's hands being as big of a factor as everyone else does.
Now if Joe loses...he'll say that it was the hands.
Never beg a 40 dollar hooker...specially after she's just turned down your mom's credit card!!
Calzaghe is faster, but Kessler hits harder.
Agreed 100%.Originally Posted by Pacstraightleft

I agree with some of this but Joe does leave himself open and no one has been able to take advantage of this but Kessler will because Kessler is much more skilled than any of Calzaghe's opponent's by a long shot i see Calzaghe outworking Kessler but i can also see Kessler picking his spots and getting Calzaghe with his jab i think this fight will be amazing clash of style's i have been changing my mind about this alot but im going with Kessler by decision.Originally Posted by wacko3205

Kessler is the only one out there that I truly believe could hurt Joe...maybe even stop him...but that's a big maybe.
Joe's got a hell of a beard & anytime it's been tested he comes right back & checks his opponent. I aint so sure that Kess has the jingle in his jeans to be able to handle someone like that.
While Kessler has pulled some impressive stingers lately...he has only faced one fighter that I really believe is of caliber & that was Andrade. The others have been either no hopers or in the game too long.
Calzaghe faced some pretty stiff opposition in their primes but they weren't names that the average fight fan could recognize...especially my U.S. bretheren of the ring.
Apples to apples many fight fans compare them evenly matched as far as the record goes...I for one would have to just wait & see because no matter what anyone thinks...Kess is at the top of his game right now while Joe is lagging on certain aspects.
This will not be the blow out that Lacy was.

The handspeed may be close, but I'd give Calzaghe the advantage, and if your talking footspeed, Calzaghe is clearly half a step quicker.
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!
