I plan on inviting over a few choice bro's & hooking this one up "pah-tey" style!

You're right in saying that neither has faced opposition like the other before, but I truly believe that if Kessler is to win this fight he is going to have to demonstrate something which he hasn't shown us so far in his career, and that is pure naked speed. Joe is going to look to come in and out buzzing about him like a wasp, and we'll see whether Kessler can swat him.
    Well said.

I've been waiting for this one eagerly myself. Should be a goody!

I dislike that Kess fights flat footed and therefor needs to reset everytime and looses time and give his opponents time to throw. With that said I still think Kess is gifted enough to pull out the win by coming on strong in the later part of the fight.
Wow. That's a tall order & one hell of a prediction. That would shock me if I saw that materialize.

Very well said. It sucks...but this one's going to be all or nothing. If Kessler could assert himself & not get discouraged...we could be looking at a new champion @ 168lbs...but that's highly unlikely.

I say that Joe's output befuddles him down the stretch.

I know that Joe has a tendency to fight down to the level of his competition at times, but in the big fights, he seems to put on his best performances.

It's a shame that he's been fighting so long (and brilliantly) but didn't get too much exposure in the U.S. until after the Lacy fight, because IMO there isn't too many guys that are on his level.

I like Kessler too, but when Joe is in top form, he looks almost unbeatable.
Good post & well put. I agree that Calzaghe fights to the level of his opposition...but he still shines & I think that he can & will against Kessler.

I've picked Joe by decision. I think the hometown advantage just might come in to play and all those people booing Kessler might have some slight mental effect on the Dane.

Even if it doesn't I see Joe outworking Mikkel. Whenever Joe gets hit with a shot that hurts him he'll get angry and punch back in bunches. Add to that the fact that he'll be throwing them in bunches anyway and I just cant see the judges favouring Mikkels shots.
Well said. I think Joe pulls out the stops over 12 tuff rounds.

Wouldn't it be a shocker if he made Kessler look as limited as he did Lacy? Kessler is a more well rounded fighter...but Joe's got all the angles & output.

I just don't know about the knockout. I don't really see either man being able to stop the other...everyone also seems to be fretting Joe's hands. Hmmmmmmm...we shall see.

for your thoughts. While I don't think that there will be a stoppage in this bout...I do agree that Kessler's an amazing fighter and he will cause Joe problems.

I agree here too. Joe is going to have to put in a serious night's work...but I think that he's prepped for it.

If he let's Kess establish his jab...he's fucked! Period.

Not sure I see it as that big of a swing.

Honestly, I think that Kess has the capabilities to make it a ruff night on Joe...that's what makes this one so exciting. Kess could make Joe old overnight in this fight...& I agree...provided his hands hold up...it should be a smoker!

I really like Kessler, he's an outstanding boxer and seems like a good person, but I quit betting against Joe a while back. Calzaghe by UD.

That said, I wish both men the best - I think it'll be one hell of a fight.
Totally agree. Very well stated. I feel the same way about Kessler & Joe that you do...I never bet against Calzaghe!

I know it could be a big factor....but could we please not mention Joe's hands any more...don't want to jinx them so close to the fight.
Indeed!!! For the love of Christmas let's all stop discussing that little factor!

I had swept that pretty much from my mind of late.

I'm taking Cal by decision, fairly clear cut.

Kessler just seems a bit too stiff too me, not quite quick enough for Joe. If he could take the center of the ring, and start to adjust and time Joe with the jab and the right hand he could beat Joe. Sometimes guys like that with a good jab and right hand can time a faster fighter, especially when Joe's coming in. But he can't get backed up into the ropes and let Joe start firing off those endless slap combos. And no I'm not making fun of Joe by calling them slap combos, he doesn't always slap but he does when he starts firing off those non stop combinations when the other guy's against the ropes.

I just think the safer pick is Joe, just a bit better fighter.

Calzaghe is going take this by UD. He's too fast, too experienced, and on top of that the fight is in his hometown infront of tens of thousands of screaming fans. Kessler won't look completely outclassed by JC or anything, but I think he's going to be confused by Calzaghe akward, unorthodox style. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kessler do better than expected early on until JC figures out how to get inside and unleash a whirlwind of power-slapping.
As others have said, the real wildcards in this fight are Calzaghe's hands, if he breaks them early it could be a long night for him.

Even though I got a CC bet against Calzaghe and am pulling for Kess, I gotta go with UD for Calzaghe. If Kess doesn't get Joe out of there no way he wins a decision in Joe's hometown, unless it's just a total one sided for Kessler. Go Mikkel!!!

Not necessarily ... some of the best fights are close hard-fought where even the loser gains new respect and acclaim. As long as it isn't clouded by bad judging and therefore in dispute by a great number of fans ... both could come out winners even though one actually loses.

That would be more likely with a win by Joe. If he loses, he loses more than Kessler does. So I guess I'm saying that if Joe doesn't do a Lacy on him, Kessler could still stand to gain from a wonderful loss.

I'd really be surprised if this fight isn't more competitive than the Lacy fight - Kessler's a strong, sound, patient fighter.
I'm really expecting a great fight. If it's a one-sided blowout, I'll probably be speechless.

    For a minute, anyway

Kessler has alot more of an arsenal than people realise I think. Against Mundine he couldn't use the jab straight right combo he enjoys as much because of Mundines speed and reflexes. After losing round 3 he changed tactics and started forcing Mundine to mount a fight instead of just counter punching by very carefully measuring the distance of where he was stopping in front of him. Mundine isn't a natural offensive fighter (IMO) and as he was stepping in he was getting picked off with jabs, hooks and long range uppercuts. Kessler was varying when he was choosing to force the issue also. To Mundine he was quite unpredictable. Kesslers shot selection seemed quite good and instinctive. He cuts off the ring very well. He is faster in and out than the "Euro robot" tag he carries suggests and has good balance. It looked like he was hunting down Mundine non stop, but he made him fight and he payed for it. Green did the opposite and waged all out war on Mundine and was nullified by superior hand speed and skills. Kessler is no one dimensional jab-right cross fighter. If he can fight like a slugger and get away with it, he will. If he can't he will adjust. I used Mundine as an example as he is a fairly underrated, but tricky fighter with quick hands and brings strange angles. I definantly don't think Joe and Mundine are in the same class but there are some hints as to how the MK and JC fight might go. Joe is an offensive fighter but the tee off often begins with a counter or during an opponent covering up. I can't see MK standing in the zone to allow the big flurries to begin whether getting countered or by covering up
Super Middleweight also acknowledge as Kessler's Kingdom when Calzaghe has retire

That was just a preview of the inevitable.

Actually, I'm pretty excited about this fight. Can't pick a winner though so I'll just wait till the 3rd and enjoy the show.
