Which is what I was waiting on...someone to give Byrd some credit...basically so that I could start blabbing.

Byrd was one of the more underappreciated & underratteed boxers of the last decade. Skill wise Byrd was unbelieveable...especially for a big man...but that in itself is a quandry...because I have always felt that Byrd was or should have been either a light heavy or a cruiser.

    Am I alone here?

I doubt I am...but I know a lot of peeps loathe Byrd from the floor to his forehead.

Anywho...I can honestly say that I am shocked that "Poe-dunk" stopped him.

I was always a fan of Byrd...He knew that he was at a disadvantage always against the top guys due to size but he came in his fights prepared...he knew he had to out box his opp...he was never out of shape and he never showed a lack of heart....Chris took fights that other guys would not EG both Klitschko brothers....Guys avoided them lke the plauge before they were champs...they were destroying everyone they faced....Chris did what he had to do and stepped up to the plate...to him it was not only about the easy way to a title...he wanted to be considered legit and to be respected....IMO he was under appreciated mainly due to the fact he was undersized and not the KO machine people wanted...but he got the job done..he has heart and he did one more thing that makes me respect him....

Byrd was always a gentleman and never made excuses for losses...he did what quality guys do...head back to the gym and fixed what was broken...laced up the gloves and kept the steady course until he achieved what it was he started and became a world champion....

IMO many guys avoided Chris....He was the last title holder guys focused on.....there was a reason for that....Did he not get respect he deserved...No he didn't but IMO the fact no one targeted him to be the man they felt would be the easiest man to beat for the title spoke loud enough...to bad more fans did not appreciate what he was

I never been much of Byrd fan. He was lucky to be a 2 time title holder (he was no champion). The first time was when Vitali got hurt and quit like a bitch. And the second time he picked up the IBF title by beating and old, injured Holyfield. Not only that, but after beating Holyfield, by all rights he lost his next 3 fights. Fres Oquendo, Andrew Golota and Jameel McCline all beat him. But Byrd was given 3 gifts. To make it worse, after those 3 gifts Byrd goes out and takes part in what just might be the worst fight ever. Against DaVarryl Williamson. Finally Wlad kicks his ass again and takes his title. Far as I'm concerned, it's good riddance Byrd. Stay the fuck away.

You aren't alone, Wacko. Chris would have been a top 10 p4p fighter at cruiser or light heavy in my opinion. His defensive skills in his prime were something to behold, if you are the sort who appreciates quality skill and movement it doesn't get much better than Byrd in his prime. He went to heavy for the $$$, and he probably made more money than he otherwise would have as a result, but I think for his legacy fighting at cruiser or light hravy would have made a world of difference. There were rumors of him fighting O'Neil Bell last year but TV would not take the fight, I think he would have won had the fight come off even though he was faded. He was a very solid fighter. Excellent win for Povetkin. I think he gives Wlad the best fight of the current heavys though I still think he loses.

Byrd tired Povetkin out......Wlad will crush him, and it'll be devistating for his career

Calling him the former wbo champion is a joke. He won because his opponent gave the fight to him as he couldn't have won it any other way at that point (which he inturn lost to a inferior fighter to the one he "won" it from in his first defence). Then he wins the ibf off of a washed up (more so than now actually) holyfield) defends it like 5 times in 4 years, and he's a former 2 time heavyweight champion of the world? He is the posterchild of why the alphabet titles are a joke. One unified title would mean he would've actually had to fight the best to get a title and 99 times out of 100, the fluke win over vitali won't happen.

After hearing the trouble Povetkin had with Byrd I am looking forward to either Brock or Chambers (esspecially Chambers) fighting Povetkin.

Eddie is crafty and he's very quick with his hands....Brock is awkward but when he's working in the ring and not being nervous or focusing on defense he does well.

If his opponent didn't make it to the scorecards, then he didn't have any problem with them IMO.

.....an old worn out Chris Byrd still gave him trouble, don't be one of these guys who doesn't see anything wrong with a 37 year old Chris Byrd (who relies on speed regardless of his fighting style) wearing out a 28 year old prime Povetkin.

There's a little part of me that worries about the fact Byrd took him 11 rounds and had Povetkin tired.

Think of a bigger in shape prime fighter like Wladimir Klitschko he'd flatten Povetkin and a younger faster fighter like Chambers he's going to give Povetkin a hard time.

Chris Byrd right now is still a tough test but not a title challenger by any stretch of the imagination

All that matters is results. The only person who needs to worry about this fight is him so he can improve himself as it very well could've been an off night. Byrd is a southpaw aswell. How many southpaws has povetkin fought?

...doesn't matter Byrd is 37 years old and his best years haven't even been in this decade and yet you make a huge deal out of him throwing the towel in vs a 28 year old guy who is supposed to beat him.

Chris Byrd showed us Povetkin isn't going to be ready to fight for WLADIMIR'S title....but then again who is?

If Eddie Chambers or Calvin Brock have a great fight I think the winner will be very competitive vs Povetkin. Especially Eddie who will be able to mimick Byrd's style and improve on his success vs Povetkin.

Again I ask how many southpaws has povetkin fought? He only has 14 fights, there's room for improvement especially if that was the first southpaw he's ever fought at the pro level (old or not, byrd is still faster than most of the blobs in the heavyweight division).

....Povetkin is 28 years old....he's more like American fighters who wait too long to go pro. Yes he's good but as for improvement he had better get on the friggin ball really quick or it'll be curtains for him real soon

If Chambers gets past Brock, I'm leaning towards him in the Povetkin fight. From accounts its was a somewhat close fight in the beginning, until Byrd wore out. Chambers is like Byrd in his prime, stylewise. I can see him upsetting Povetkin and pulling off the UD. Fsst Eddie is my pick to win the whole thing, then beat Wlad.
