being in canada is your problem, do u get any sports regularly on only one channel??

in america boxing is on everyday, it according to what cable plan you got though, but boxing is widely available..

the contender series, 24/7, countdown, espn classics, their is more realty type shows about boxing than almost anyother sport...

actually soccer isnt hardly ever on t.v. in america especially on regular ABC,NBC, FOX, CBS but that doesnt mean its dead...

maybe canadian tv boxing is dead, but actually dont canida have moliter, bute, pascal, selling out stadiums in canada??

boxing is doing better and has a brighter future now than it has in over a decade or two...
We actually have 3 sports channels, the problem is that none of them are very good. Only TSN (somewhat) regularily shows boxing, and the other two pretty much only show MMA.
In regards to the fighters up here, Molitor is the only one TSN (our ESPN equivilent) has shown any interest in promoting. I think the problem lies in the fact that Quebec (where the other fighters are based) is more like a seperate country than it is part of Canada and the sports networks treat is that was. They have their own sports network in Quebec, but I'm not sure even if Bute or Pascal get much air time, though they did show Bute's title fight live in Quebec (but not anywhere else in Canada).

I sympathise with the problem of actually getting to see boxing in Canada, because we had a similar problem for a long while here in the UK, because once it was sold up to the satellite channels, I was pretty much able to see zero fights between the ages of 12-18 until I moved away from home, and was able to get my own satellite.

Nowadays, I have all the sports channels available, and the provision of international world title boxing is still patchy at best, and are often added to the schedules very late in the game.

Football and Boxing are my two favorite sports. You are right that NFL coverage, pregame, postgame, all that is pretty intensive and has through the roof production values.

Every so often the commentators will compare the two sports, which I like because boxing could always use more publicity. Last year a big deal was made that the NY Jets brought in Teddy Atlas to give a prep speech before the playoffs. That didnt work.

Comparing boxing and the NFL in America is like comparing David vs. Goliath.

A few weeks ago I was watching some college game and the announcer made some reference to PBF being a coward. It made me laugh.

NFL gets the mainstream stations that everyone has...CBS ,NBC, Fox, Espn...boxing gets secondary stations like FSN, Versus, Espn 2, and showtime/hbo. No doubt there would be more fans if it was televised nationally on one of the main stations.

I hope the Patriots destroy the Colts.

Yeah, the british Setanta have the calzaghe fights, and have shown more of the big-name boxing out of the states in the past year than Sky have done.

That's awsome, hopefully it will be available through cable and not satalite...

It may be on the ropes but It is NO where near dead.
Down here the Networks do infact treat it like a red headed step-child and sometimes It feels like an easter egg hunt just to find a actual Live quality bout/card.
Ive seen alot of comments about HBO.There are only two reasons I shell out Dinero monthly for it .....Boxing and Sopranos. Now that Tony and the boys are sleeping with the fishes Theres only one.
Pardon the sideline Rant but Ive watched over the Years how IMO It has become so Centralized, almost as if Its promoted fighters are the only ones of signifigance.I recognize most certainly that under its banner we have seen some of the premier fighters hone their craft and treat all of us to great fights and Introduce us to some outstanding superstars.
They show pre-fight boxers in the weight class of that nights featured fighter but every one is Under contract with or has pending deals with network
When theres a decision coming up Lampley gos over The Judges "signifigant" bouts and every one Was a HBO featured fight.
The once premier "boxing after Dark" has reduced from 2 or 3 fights To just 1 And most of the time there "co-feature" Is the fight that I just shelled out $50 bucks for last week. This is a catch 22 though as it does give other fans the chance to see the big main event they missed but Is there a Law against a Triple-Header??Funny thing is we know all of the fights on the card that night and I want to see Boxing...Not Interviews with Moviestars promoting there next HBO feature film ETC.
When there Interviewing at ring side Im always looking in between The bodys trying to identify The boxers in the ring going at it and hoping to get an Idea of how its unfolding LOl.Look .....I KNOW ITS A NETWORK AND MONEY MAKES THERE WORLD GO AROUND but They have such a spotlight on the sport and as in the past should Look past there own nose in interest of the fans....and ultimatley the boxers.
Sorry about the rant but they were and are the Big boy on the block and Imo they turn in a Journey man effort when they have
shown in the past that they were Grand Champions.
Maybe I should be grateful and I am,Please do not get me wrong. The Networks In general have at times and more frequently Conceded there full dedication to this beautiful sport. Most of us have it made compared to our Friends in Canada from what it sounds like and personnaly If I had that lack of exposure to the sport I follow.....I'd be looking at hockey as well
To Mike in Canada and any other fan who Is in need of Input and sees little boxing, Let Saddos be your Santuary and any other truley fan based site and/or people. When it comes down to it WE keep interest/knowledge and ultimatley boxing alive. Need more coffee!!

You leave our beloved hockey alone.
Apparently Bob Probert (former NHL tough guy) used to train periodically at the Kronk gym. He did ok from what I've heard.

Boxing can't die. People who think it's dead are idiots.

Well, Proberts over 40 now and had numerous problems with both cocaine and the law, so maybe he could be matched up against Oliver McCall.
