He outboxe's people, Cotto lost because he ran. That's not the Cotto that we've seen he's scared now.

Also Cotto showed smarts by backing off in the mid 9th when he realized he wasnt gonna take Shanes will or heart. He wasnt gonna take anymore punishment to deliver his own. He was ahead and boxed on his backfoot effectively. It was far from a prime super fast Mosely but a 1/2 of Shane Mosely is better than 98% out there. It took me a while to become a fan, not sure why, not like I disliked him, just wasn't a big fan but I kind of converted after the Quintana fight. Still not one of my top five-ten favorite fighters but I'm a fan.


And it was good for the sport that he won. No offense to Mosley, but he's had his time and the younger guys need to start taking over.

I always, ALWAYS have a reservation or two about a fighter. I always wondered if Cotto would ever show the coolness he showed in his earlier days and more to the point it looked like to me that Cotto would be a badly worn horse within the next couple of years.... Simply because i believed that as he fought a higher caliber of opponent, he'd only wind up taking more punishment.

I really thought he'd wind up a Gatti type. It could still happen but i doubt it will be any time soon.

I'd like to start off by saying.

I really don't understand some of you here. Cotto fought a helluva fight, he punished SSM he hit him with left's, right's. Can you believe 5 rounds past bye before Cotto actually threw a meaningful body shot? Can you believe Cotto was beating SSM with his jab?
Can you believe SSM was the body puncher in this fight? Can you believe Cotto was the boxer in this fight?

I mean this is some crazy stuff here it's like they both said you know I'm gonna go out there and beat him at his own game. SSM said I'm gonna go to the body. Cotto said I'm gonna land my jab at will. The crazy part about it is that they both did just that. As I watched the fight I could not believe what I was seeing. People here said:

Cotto was too robotical
He's one dimensional
Hes to slow
His chin won't hold up to SSM's power
(All of the above are normally said pre-Cotto fights)


Well Cotto wasn't robotical, he wasn't one dimensional, he looked pretty damn fast and even faster then SSM at times, his chin held up pretty damn nice. He took some shot's and took 'em well held his own and fought back.
What makes me laugh is the posters here who say "Cottos one dimensional" and yet Cotto was able to brawl with SSM and beat him. Cotto was able to box SSM and beat him. The fight finishes and the same posters who said he was one dimensional came on here and complain about him boxing and moving.... WTF So you say he's one dimensional but when he shows you he can also throw his jab, stick and move you complain that he ran?

How about Cotto the robot? Did anyone see "Robocop" in the ring last night? I didn't I saw Cotto thumping SSM face with that hard left jab and following it up with a straight right hand. Cotto new that SSM wasn't gonna give him the body shot openings he knew it from the go that's why Cotto didn't go there. So Cotto knew from the get go exactly what he needed to do and he did. So Cotto boxes 'Non-Robotical' and again people here say he lost the fight he looked weak, that's not the Cotto that we've seen.
Well people you can't win all your fights by KO, and in a fire work show fashion. If you saw Cottos post fight interview he himself said I knew/realized I wasn't gonna KO him. I noticed he kept coming forward and he wasn't gonna stop so I did what I had to do to finish off my job, I knew I was ahead so I knew I needed to box well in the last rounds and he did.

How about Cottos slow handspeed? Well his handspeed looked really good. Oh! but wait let me guess that's cause SSM past his best and is old and wasn't in the fight? But I bet if SSM would have gotten the decision Cotto wouldn't be S*** right about now huh? Exactly. People need to learn to stop back peddleing and learn to stop contradicting themselves.

Last but not least, Cottos Chinny Chin Chin.... Huge right hands by SSM that hit Cotto and he took them well. The uppercuts we're fucken sweet, but again Cotto took them well. I got nervous when I saw Cottos lip re-opened from the Zab fight I said oh! S*** I hope they can stop/minimize the bleeding and keep it to a minimum or else SSM's gonna keep throwing that uppercut and is gonna put Cotto down. But Cotto did well by keeping SSM active on other things.

Anyways.... I guess if your not a Cotto fan by now then you probably never will be. Which is fine but keep it real give credit where credit is due. I wasn't a Calzaghe fan but you gotta give credit to him man he boxed well. Cottos earned it and hes earned it the right way look at his record and his quality of opposition it speaks for it'self. The kids the truth and he's shut many people up. He's no longer robotical, one dimensional and or slow, his chin has held up well. Wether he can beat PBF is yet to be seen. I mean stranger things have happened, who knows we might get to see Cotto vs. Margarito 1st and if Margarito comes out the same way we saw him come out last night... S***!!! Who know's what'll happen.

This would mean that Floyd Mayweather Jr is the biggest COWARD of this ERA in boxing.
I remember Floyd running from Baldomir for nearly 10 whole rounds. Baldomir was like 40? and had 10 knock-outs in 60 fights. Shane Mosley has a granite chin and packs bombs for breakfast, lunch and dinner. NO ONE has ever knocked Mosley out. Miguel Cotto is not a knock out artist per say. His greatest asset is the body punching which is something Miguel did very little of during this fight. Miguel pretty much SHOCKED you by your post, you are still in shock. Go see a Doctor because you are talking out the side of your neck. Go rest that neck brotha, go rest that neck. I think Shane is pretty shocked himself. Great post and heres your first cc on me im Mayweather fan but Mayweather fans like Smascrusher and Skyler are the type of Mayweather fans that give Mayweather fans like me a bad rep im sick of Smashcruser constantly trying to put down Cotto when he never ducks anyone and puts it on the line in every fight by going toe to toe i can't understand how anyone can hate Cotto as much as he does.
