i never heard that there was already a purse offer. anyways if it is 57-43 i don't think it would cut it. manny deserves no less than 60-40, more imo. this news about the diaz fight being almost a done deal i think is just leverage to force jmm to take a even lesser cut. i have a feeling we'll still see the marquez rematch on march.
You have to be kidding me? On what basis? Marquez holds the title, and fought Manny to a draw. Marquez has a great record. Yeah Manny is the bigger draw, but he needs to realise that fighting David Diaz is less of a draw, and fighting Marquez is what will bring the money to the table. More than 60-40 in favour of Manny is a joke.
i heard manny is asking for a guaranteed $5M. let's just say manny gets guaranteed $4M, if jmm turns down half of that and fights someone else for less than a mil, now that would be the joke.
At the moment, I've heard news of 1 opponent JMM wants to fight. Pacquiao is the one looking the other way right now.
the jmm rematch is still on the table, let's just wait.

To be honest I think this will be a great fight. Whether you rate Diaz or not it's still a fact that he is the bigger man, has a world title and win over Morales and is an all action come forward fighter.

Maybe the rumours about Manny struggling at the weight are true and if so why not move up?

People moaning about him going for an easy champ are missing the point. It will still be Manny's first ever fight at lightweight and he's fighting a world champ. That's NOT an easy fight guys. Look at how Hatton struggled against Collazo.

Even Floyd almost lost to Castillo when he went straight for a title shot in his first fight at lightweight, why would Manny be crazy enough to try and fight Juan diaz right off the bat. Let him get used to the weight first then go for the big mega fight with Diaz.

As for him dodging Marquez and Guzman I don't see it that way.

He's moving up as he thinks he will feel more comfortable at a higher weight. If Marquez or Guzman want to fight him let them move up as well.

I can practically guarantee that Guzman would move up to lightwieght to fight Pacquiao.

If Marquez decides to remain at 130 it's up to him.

I think Marquez is a bad matchup for Manny and he knows it. His logic is probably that by moving up Marquez will either have to move up with him to fight him after he's become a world champ at the weight and can command more money or else not fight him at all.

As long as he's still in entertaining fights I'm not too bothered about whether he fights Marquez again or not.

I agree KK that there is still time but like I said, those other fighters are far more worthy of a title shot. Who the hell is going to spalsh out PPV $$$ to see David Diaz v Manny? And dam right BZKFN,people can say whatever they like about Marquez camp previous poor decisions, the guy is on a roll now and has stated time and time again, the fighter he wants is Manny. No ifs,no buts,no excuses.

Bilbo, the rumours regarding Manny not being able to make weight are just that, rumours. In 1 report,Manny himself said it was easy ot make weight. In another,he said it wasn't. And you say it's not an easy fight?Based on what>? It's an easier fight than Guzman,Marquez,Valero and Juan Diaz who all have a way to possibly beat Manny. It's an easy fight considering an Erik Morales,a shot Erik Morales moved up in weight and won the fight in ALOT of people's eyes. And yeah,Guzman may move up to fight Manny, but that doesn't matter if Manny does not want to fight him, does it? I don't agree with any of your post Bil.

Just to clarify as well, on this very forum after the Diaz-Morales fight, 2 people had the fight a draw, and everyone else said Morales won. I checked numerous fight reports, and I couldn't find any examples other than that of the 3 judges sat ringside who actually thought Diaz won that fight. It's a real shame, because nobody really gave Erik a prayer.

i think the whole reason pac is choosing to fight david diaz first is because he needs to feel out fighting at lightweight. there's no bigger mistake than figuring out that lightweight is a bad weight for you when you're fighting the absolute best in the division. that would be a devastating loss.

david diaz is a "feeler" fight to see if he could handle the being a lightweight, but at the same time fighting someone who is somewhat a name.

i was all for Pacquiao in moving up to lightweight and fighting a lesser opponent to test the waters. BUT I definitely was not for him moving up in weight before fighting Juan Manuel Marquez. It doesn't make sense. I'm a huge Pacquiao fan but I feel like he's ducking JMM if he doesnt fight him next.

typical....so typical to try and pick apart a fighter. Theres not even a valid article that points out there was already an offer of a 57-43 split in favor of pac. nice try doode but how ever your effort goes, pac ain't never duck anyone nor will he ever. for jmm not to take a 40-60 deal with pac is whats foolish, he ain't gonna get no other mega fight. There is no other mega fight but one with pacman. Pac can move up and feel things out fighting david whats wrong with that. hell who has fought the best of the best like pac has. his first fight at 126 was mab and his first fight at 130 was eric. what is casa or juan suppose to be who he fights first at 135? eventually he'll get to them. As of now pac doubters need to enjoy these times of misleading articles and rumors til contracts are signed and pac whooping ass again inside the ring whom ever it is. Jmm best stay sharp, now that casa ain't look too good. Jmm is the only one that can give pac a lost and thats being nice.

I thought Pacquiao would move up to face Diaz instead of fighting Marquez. I don't want to say Manny's ducking Marquez but something is definitely up. Once GBP & Top rank sorted things out I thought this fight was on its way. If Pacquiao is having trouble making weight I'm sure Marquez would meet him at 135. I mean it's been over 3 years since their 1st fight, how long should the fans have to wait!!!

If Pacquiao moves up to fight David Diaz then I'd see Marquez taking a fight with Guzman. It's a fight the fans would be interested in & the next best fight to be made at 130!

This is the reason why Bilbo is one of my top posters. He speaks with sanity and definitely he keeps his biases where it should be tucked. cc here Bilbo.

For those who want to see Pacquaio vs Marquez 2, let us just wait. It will happen sometime in 2008 but it may not be in March. No one is ducking another fighter here. Diaz, Marquez,Guzman, Valero, etc want Pacquaio. Pacquaio wants Marquez and Diaz subject to conditions. Marquez wants to play hard so he might have lost the chance here..... but nothing has been decided yet.

Am sure, Marquez will have his chance this year against Pacquaio.

Like almost everybody, Marquez is number 1 in my wish list of Pacquaio's next opponent.

Manny has not been shy to make his demands public and was admittedly very unhappy with his cut vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, even though he still received the majority. Beating David Diaz would give Pacquiao a title belt in yet another weight class. This would not be such an easy task however, as Diaz is clearly the bigger man and just defeated Eric Morales via unanimous decision.

Julius Rain, I you for being a fanboy. You say Pac weouldn't duck anyone. Well the only fight the fans want for him is Marquez...yet he's looking the other way. Oscar even said at the Pac-Barrera post fight that if Pac likes beating Mexicans, he has another with the initials JMM. Arum dodged answering that one then, which suggested to me something was up. I like Pac, but I can't see any reason why this fight can't be made. Marquez is the one making noise.

Gamo, I'll you in 24, as karma won't allow me. Damn you karma.

Thanks BZKFN,CC in 24 to you too. Nice to see some fair and knowledgeable posters who know valid and reasonable points when they see them.

I'm not saying the fight is NOT going to happen but Manny is certainly doing EVERYTHING he can to delay the fight. For what reason?Who knows? To see JMM grow older? To see JMM have to fight Guzman and possibly lose?

He wants the majority of the purse,he got it.He wants the most money from his next fight,no fight is bigger than the JMM fight. He wants the fight at 135,JMM said yes. What more does he want?¬Doesn't matter how you look at it,Manny is relucant to take this fight.
