PBF vs ODLH = generated so much money that a rematch is almost innevitable. ODHL made 52 million dollars ( pbf 25mil) off of that fight. If these two guys are the buisness guys they say they are, if they dont rematch then they arent the buisness men they say they are.

thats why all the fights you questioned in your original post makes sense. Thats all i was saying.
If you want to talk about who he SHOULD fight for his LEGACY then start a different post with that title.

I will add this though. If YOU GUYS were Oscar De La Hoya you'd be looking at the same fights too. Oscar wears two hats and all three of these fights make great business sense as stated.

But one point that seems to be lost on virtually everyone is this. You (not you Deuce I'm talking to everyone else) say cynically that Oscar is choosing these fights only for the money as if there is zero interest in the fights.

But this is where that vast majority of you seem to be delusional. Money in boxing is linked directly to the paying public. The more people are interested in a fight then the more PPV revenue and sales it will generate.

The reason these fights would be commercially huge is because they are THE MOST popular fights out there for the fans. If they were not they wouldn't sell as much as the other fights now would they.

Just because you, me or any of us like to consider ourselves hardcore internet savvy boxing fans doesn't mean we are the only fans or the only fans who should be catered for.

How many fans like us hardcore posters are in the world? A few thousand tops?

Now how many potential fans who are not as hardcore and don't follow the sport in it's extreme details are there? Probably millions.

Now as a fighter and a promoter which market are you going to care more about?

And it's not just about the money here. Who in any sport wouldn't want to be involved in one of the biggest events in their sport in history?

It's not just a money thing? How proud would you be (or think Oscar, Floyd and Ricky are) of being involved in some of the biggest boxing events of all time? It's a tremendous accolade and honour for anybody who gives their life to a sport they love to be involved in some of that sports most historic moments.

Of course Oscar wants to be in huge fights. Of course Oscar wants to promote huge fights. They represent the pinnacle of achievement in the sport of boxing. Why would you even criticise anybody for thinking that way? If you just think everyone in boxing is about money you are selling all of these guys way short. Oscar has plenty of money more than he'll ever need, but being part of the biggest events both as a fighter and a promoter is all about being a success and what success is what drives these guys in the first place.

If any of these fights happen it's because the boxing and casual sporting world has HUGE interest in it. Us knowledgable few hardcore fans might snort and say these arn't the best matchups that can be made but 95% of fans couldn't care less about that.

Any huge boxing events are great for boxing and even a Hatton Oscar mismatch next year would still be a HUGE event for boxing and British boxing, and what true fan doesn't want boxing in the spotlight?

The only one of these fights that interests me is Hoya-Cotto.

I agree with everyone who says DLH-Hatton is mismatch and it seems almost disgraceful Oscar is suggesting that fight. Hatton has tested welter twice, once barley escaped a KO and once got KO'd. And Collazo and PBF aren't big punchers. Hatton shouldn't take this fight no matter how much he is offered.

I had Floyd winning clearing against Oscar. Everyone is always saying the "Oscar abandoned his jab" blah blah blah. I had Floyd clearly winning Oscar's jab or not the night of the fight. It was a fight I only saw that one time and never wished to watch it again.


If Oscar fought Cotto believe it or not this would be a good fight. But what does Oscar have to gain from it if he wins? Damaging the reputation of an exciting up and comer who could give many more years and good fights to the sport? Oscar has got some power left, and I think he and Cotto could make an exciting match still, but I would rather see Cotto mix it up with the other young, active and hungry welters.


However, if Cotto beat Oscar that would add another notch to his belt. It would also give Cotto prime exposure. And it would give good leverage to get PBF in the ring. Cotto is looking at a dangerous fight next no matter who he takes, an aging and inactive DLH might be his best bet.

Cotto's Puerto Rican, you're Mexican, it'd be great TV. Cotto just beat Shane Mosley and while the PPV wasn't that great, with 24/7 and the right promotion, the fight could do around 1 Mil and Cotto would probably only need 30% to be satisfied. Make the fight happen. One question: why isn't this your first choice?

Agree with all points, why DLH does not mention Forrest is baffling. Hatton will go back to 140 and i doubt DLH could make 147 again anyhow.

Oscar was and is one of my favorite fighters but he needs to get out of the limelight so younger talents can make a name for themselves. If Oscar is out of the equation new superstars will eventually emerge, but as long as he keeps fighting he will be the biggest name.

Come on guys taking on Floyd Mayweather was hardly hand picking a soft opponent. Mayorga had been a big stumbling block to another p4p star in Vernon Forrest and Sturm is still a world champ now.

Oscar has always faced excellent competition. He was in negotiations to fight Ricky BEFORE the Mayweather fight and following Hatton's loss it seems less and less likely he will take that fight.

As for a rematch with Floyd, you may not want to see but come on EVERY fighter would love another chance at Floyd especially if they lost by split decision.

I'm with the majority in that of the three the fight I most want is Cotto, and thankfully with Floyd taking a year out and Hatton moving back down to 140 that will most likely be the one we will get.

A Hatton fight is absurd. Hatton should only fight at 140.

Like the original poster said Floyd doesn't stop people regularly but he stopped Hatton. Sharmba was a bodyshot, who was the last guy before Hatton that Floyd truly stopped (not corner stoppage) with headshots. Go back to 140, corner stoppage with Gatti, Corley lasted, I'm trying to remember the stoppage of Bruseles, I know it was 8th round but was it a true stoppage or a corner stoppage or just kind of a mercy stoppage. It was kind of hard to pay attention considering it was such a ridiculously non competitive fight.

If its not Bruseles which I think was a corner/doctor stoppage, not sure, then its all the way back to Phillip N'dou at 135 with right hands. Floyd's a better fighter than ODLH no doubt, but ODLH clearly does hit harder and is far bigger than Ricky, I would be shocked if Hatton lasted more than 8-10 rounds unless ODLH is almost paralyzed by cutting the weight.

I would not grumble about a Cotto vs. DLH fight, Just see it as pointless for both.I know that sounds fubar but Not on my Want list.
