If were going on skill alone than Jorge Paez has to be up there.
If were going on skill alone than Jorge Paez has to be up there.
He out boxed Daniel Zaragoza, he out boxed Manny Pacquiao. By choosing his spots knowing went to attack and when not to. Morales may of been in more brawls than boxing matches but that doesn't mean he isn't one of the best skilled Mexican fighters. Take Meldrick Taylor for example he had great skills but he was in more brawls than boxing matches, but does that make him not one of the most skilled fighters of his era because he had warrior mentality and liked to get stuck in there and have a toe to toe war ??Originally Posted by CutMeMick
And its exactly the same for Morales he like to get stuck in there and have toe to toe war but that doesn't change how greatly skilled he was.
You are right man I can't defend that other than to say I was at work :POriginally Posted by CutMeMick
Let me reorganize
1. Ricardo Lopez
2. Julio Cesar Chavez
3. Salvador Sanchez
4. Ruben Olivares
5. Carlos Zarate
Zarate is to this day castly underrated IMO. I don't know how you can't have JCC on there, he was brilliant. My list now stands.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Depends on what your looking for in skills, Chavez was masterful pressure fighter picked his shots well, and was masterful going to the body, but was he a great technical boxer ?? nope not at all just depends what your taste is.Originally Posted by killersheep
Well BB when I read Ricardos question I assumed he ment skilled (Like slick boxers a la Perenell Whitaker, Pep etc. etc.)Originally Posted by brazilianbomber
Slickness and that type of skill.
If the question was just skills that can be interpreted in many ways for example what your saying it took JCC's skills to get him thru Taylor.
Eriks skills to get him through MAB and Pac.
I just assumed he ment skills like finess fighters. I'm not looking at records or accomplishment I'm thinking and replaying fighters in my head and their styles. I'm not basing the list on who can beat who I'm just listing them on skills which I interpreted as I said slick boxers.
If someone posts who's the most skilled American fighters? I'd post:
Pernell
PBF
RJJ
etc. etc. etc.
Heres my top 10.
1. 'Finito' Lopez
2. Salvador Sanchez
3. Gilberto Roman
4. Ruben Olivares
5. Miguel Canto
6. JMM
7. MAB
8. Zaragoza
9. Paez Sr.
10. Mijares
Honor mentions to: Montiel, Castillo, Munoz, Melchor Castro, Cazares.
*Theres also other fighters whom I've only seen a fight or 2 on and have read some things on them from what I gather they were exceptional fighters: Kid Azteca, Juan Zurita, Raul Macias, Rodolfo Casanova.

Good call there VD on Paez... That fuckers waist was made out of rubber and the way he would toy with his opponents was funy as hell.
I think this topic is far too broad. First of all 5 greatest Mexican Fighters It's hard for me to pick 5 best Mexican's of anything boxing because there are just so many to choose from, so many different era's, weightclasses, etc. Secondly most skilled: This is also up for debate there are Mexican's who are "SKILLED" at every imaginable style.Originally Posted by Ricardo "Finito" Lopez

Spot on Killer...Originally Posted by killersheep
I took it as "skills" (slickness, make you miss) but your right "skilled" is so broad that we all took it in different ways. I mean in that case just list the 5 Greatest Mexican fighters I mean that would be equivalent to listing the most skilled.
Ricardo/ICB help us out here. What did you mean by your question? (I know you always say you have trouble wording things maybe we can help out here) Did you mean skilled (like finess, boxing skills)? or just plain skills?
Which again to me that would be like just listing the Greatest fighters cause "skilled" covers so many departements....
I'm assuming you meant slickness, make you miss etc. etc. etc. which is why you listed Lopez at #1.
Whatever else is said, I don't want to get into an argument with you on the best Mexican fighters, you are p4p in that category.Originally Posted by CutMeMick

1.Salvador Sanchez
2.Ricardo Lopez
3.Ruben Olivares
4.Juan Manuel Marquez
5.Erik Morales
For me with Julio Cesar Chavez and Barrera forcing arguement.
Nah! man I learn new stuff on it everyday man... Third Man, eagle, VD and some others know their stuff to. You also know your stuff and to be honest Rafa & Jhonny deserve a mention. Both very slick and technical fighters.Originally Posted by killersheep
Thats why i love debating with Mick about Mexican fighters i learn so much, and its challenging debating with someone with that much knowledge.Originally Posted by killersheep
Possibly by the end of his career Mijares could be mentioned as one of the most skilled Mexican fighters.

Also if you did mean that then maybe you should change the thread to read.
"The Top 5 Most Technical Skilled Mexican Fighters" or something along those lines...
Maybe this was a bad thread because it looks like i made a right mess of this thread. I meant all range of skills not just slickness etc. Lopez to me is complete package not just his slickness, his punching technique his countering abilities etc, were amazing to watch.Originally Posted by CutMeMick
