I just cannot get into Bute at all. I don't even think it is his fault, but he appears to be a very protected fighter.
Protected fighter ?? i don't know how you work that one out, he fought Kabary Salem who is only the 2nd fighter to have dropped Joe Calzaghe and give him all he could handle. Plus Bute is the only fighter to have ever stopped Salem, He also fought Sakio Bika who was fresh off giving Calzaghe all he could handle. and just recently he won the IBF title off Berrio, Bute has beaten some solid opposition and he has only had 21 pro fights. I think he has developed well and he is one of the best Super Middleweights out there IMO.
I see your point, he has fought some decent competition, but no championship caliber competition IMO. Bika is a tough fighter, but not Championship Caliber. Berrio was IBF champ, but he had big limitations also and basically a weak champ. Now he defends against Joppy, who I cannot find to be ranked by anyone anymore, including the IBF.

It just makes me feel like there is a trend starting with how he is being handled. I hope I am wrong but it just seems fishy to me.

Edit: I just found Joppy as being ranked 15th by the IBF at Lt. Heavyweight.
I think Ice is right, when you compare Bute's record with my own favourite super middleweight Carl Froch he seems to have been moved along at a faster rate.

For a 20 fight resume a UD win over Sakio Bika is impressive, Bika proved in winning the Contender that he's no mug, except when it comes to picking a wife I guess

Berrio was world champ albiet a shit one so he'd coming along pretty nicely.

After last night's fights I gotta believe that Bute would have a much much better chance of defeating Edison Miranda than his countreymen Jean Pascal would.

Far as nationality goes, they're both Canadian.

Steve Molitor said it best though when he said he was the only real Canadian kid and all the rest are just a bunch of foreigners.

If one of our white English boxers said that Gordon Brown would have to fly out to Pakistan and India and apologise to the Dalai Lama whilst the boxer himself would be labelled as 'SCUM' on the front page of the Daily Mirror.

One of the reasons why I fucken love Steve Molitor

Bute is born and raised in Romania. Fought for Romania in the Sydney Olympics as well. Then signed a promotional contract with a Canadian promoter - along with his countryman and fellow Olympian the LHW contender Adrian Diaconu btw - and has fought his pro-career out of Montreal. Dunno if Bute has aquired Canadian passport or not, but his nationality is still Romanian

(Now you can argue - as Molitor does - that Montreal/Quebec is not really Canada in the first place... Also seem to remember that in the build up to the Bute-Bika fight, the Cameroonian Bika actually spoke the language (French) in the press conferences, while the supposedly home guy Bute struggled...)

Joppy gets stopped early. Bute is an acurrate puncher and a rangy one. He will get to Joppys chin early imo.
