I keep on wondering why people keep on bringing up 154 pounders as potential opposition for Mayweather, why should he go up there again? Karmazin, Forrest, Quartey would add nothing to his credibility... if he loses to them there are excuses, and if he beats them there are excuses. The only person who would be worthy is Spinks, and even he isn't a very big name, and that fight wouldn't be exciting. Mayweather would walk Spinks down and eventually KO him. The only fights that should be considered are against Dela Hoya, Cotto, and MOsley. Williams is too green and too potentially dangerous for this fight to happen right now, what Williams needs to do is fight a big name and get people really talknig about him.
First Cotto please!!Originally Posted by Taeth

I still see Oscar as a valid opponent. Due to poor scoring the fight is considered close by the media(the ring had it 115-114 or something and the judges scored a SD). However this fight is good for Floyd because Oscar possesses a lot of similar attributes that Cotto has as well. They both are converted southpaw or at least dominant lefties, they both throw great left hooks and jabs and they both have good handspeed. I feel that Cotto's determination to land punches will actually hurt him in this fight because Mayweahter is still way faster than him, and he is the master of countering an opponent and getting out of the way of their retaliation. Another thing is that Mayweather can handle body shots from the best of them, Oscar doesn't go to the body normally a whole lot, but he has always landed heavy down there he wanted to and he landed mostly to the body against Mayweather he didn't ever hurt Mayweather with his body shots, just like Castillo who is another great body puncher couldn't truly get to Floyd with body shots. Also Mosley did his best when he used movement those few rounds around 8 or 9 and he was able to counter effectively, and Cotto wasn't able to sink into his punches. Mayweather moves way better than Mosley, and Cotto will have to keep on reseting himself while getting counter punched and I see Mayweather having enough power to hurt Cotto.
I agree. Cotto or any other slow one-dimensional fighter out there might have given us more exciting fights. Still, can't see Cotto winning a round against Mayweather as much as I want that to happen.Originally Posted by Puya
I think people saying Cotto is a slow-one dimensional fighter is very far from the truth. The more I watch him the more I realize he can do almost everything in boxing very well. He fights off his back foot, countering very, very well, and going forward he is very effective with good timing and the best body attack in the sport. Now I can see how people think that Cotto is slow, but its only his movement that is slow, his reaction speed is very good, he has very quick hands, and he fights very fast in his head. However the problem I see him having against Mayweather is that Mayweather does this at a higher level than anyone I've ever seen except RJJ. PBF doesn't tire, he retains his quickness throughout the hold fight, he gets good power of his back foot, and he is nearly impossible to hit cleanly. Its not that Cotto is one dimensional or slow that I believe he loses, in this case its Floyd's greatness, and not his shortcommings that make impossible for me to see him winning.
But untill they fight we will never be certain of it. do we?

Good point Taeth. Haven't seen Floyd exhausted yet. So far, the only ones that I have seen giving Floyd a challenge is Jose Luis Castillo 1 and ODLH. Regardless of what outcome I foresee of Cotto vs Mayweather, I'll be rooting for Cotto.Originally Posted by Taeth
Jesus Chavez gave Mayweather one of his toughest fights as well you should check that out.Originally Posted by Chino
