also, endless random punches, which is what calzaghe has even said he will do when hopkins starts blocking shots, is NOT how u beat someone who has defense...
look at soliman - wright...
that is what we may see![]()

If either of them play to the crowd and show-off, I would think that would be territory for Hopkins to play in.
Joe's real good, but I just see Hopkins frustrating Joe to the point of getting careless, and ko'ing Calzaghe. Should be a barnburner though.
I just think Hopkins is going to shine on this night; though I am hoping for a Calzaghe win. Going to be an ugly, inside fight.
Should be interesting to see who the crowd wil root the most for; and if it will affect Joe's mental state, especially if he gets in deep.
For me; Hopkins by late ko.
its a great match but i dont think it will be a great spectacle for a casual fan. there will be some good boxing but a lot more clinching and fouling than we want to see (mostly down to Hopkins)
i hope im wrong though![]()
Its not going to be like the Lacy fight and he wont throw as many punches as against Kessler. But Calzaghe will most likely dominate the fight. Its Calzaghe who will dictate the pace and up it when he chooses. Hopkins at 43 doesnt have the legs to go with that. I wouldnt be surprised to see Hopkins TKO'd actually but the distance is much more likely.
Hidden Content IN CASE THEY ALL FORGOT WHAT REAL HEAVYWEIGHT POWER WAS!!!
I said it would most likely be a dominating Calzaghe showing. Everything points towards it. Going on Calzaghes recent showings and Hopkins recent showings especially. I see a dominating performance as one in which Calzaghe (on my card) wins about 9 of the rounds. Anything more will just be showing off!
There is nothing particularly ludicrous in such a suggestion really.
I want JC to win this fight so bad and if he wins and looks good, surely he is a P4P number 1 contender especially considering Floyd' biggest matches this year will be Oscar2 and the Big Show.
Check it out on boxrec coz I ain't.
America is where the big fights happen and to secure or strengthen your legacy I should say, you have to go over to the US to fight at MSG or Vegas etc, thats what I mean. Calzaghe ain't a major box office in the states coz he fought in UK all his career and ain't fought over there yet, but he will be after he faces Hopkins and wins.
Bernard Hopkins
Well I did check it out.
1994, He visited Ecaudor to fight for the Vacant Middleweight Title and he drew. He went down twice as well in the 5th and 7th.
So the only time he stepped out of hiw own backyward he was not up to scratch.
He dragged Segundo Mercado back to USA for a rematch and won TKO 7th rd.
And buy the way, this fella he fought has a garbage record.
Oh yeah , it goes without saying that this will be a dirty fight that will disapoint anyone expecting to see a good fight . Hopkins has never been a good fight and he certainly isnt going to start now . Good fighter but not good to watch . Joe likewise may be dragged into scrappy action and perform poorly as we saw vs Bika and Starie but those fights were just mark in time bouts . Big fights like Eubank , Lacy and Kessler, Joe egst up for so he will be focused and at his best . His dad isnt gonna allow any messing about and Joe will be in for an earful if he doesnt land twice as many as Hop in each round.
But yet again as i said to you in the other thread when has Calzaghe ever looked good when someone spoils his fighting ?? Salem, Reid, Bika, all made Calzaghe look average when they roughed him up. Hopkins is one of the best technical fighters in modern day boxing and also one of the dirtiest there is no way in hell Calzaghe will have a dominating performance against Hopkins.
I do not even think this will be Joe's hardest fight, what worries me more is that when Joe beats Hopkins there will be every excuse under the sun coming out as to why....and not least " Yeah but he wouldn't have beat him in his prime" this fight may get messy and untidy at times and certainly won't be easy for either....simply put, at this stage in there careers Joe is the better option and fresher fighter,
The guy ain't been beat amateur or pro since 1990 and this is his destiny....is Joe so far beneath Taylor that the form line should suggest a Hopkins win.....I don't think so, do you think Hopkins hits so much harder than say Lacy, that he can knock Joe out I don't think so, in fact has Joe ever looked like being knocked out NO...And to Hopkins, is he as fast or as strong even as Kessler, again I don't think so...
There may be those who think that he can hustle Joe out of it...but on what basis is this, it for sure ain't because he is bigger and or stronger....Joe is as strong and as rough and tuff as they come, with all the ability in the world,
And I think the opposite to the Hopkins fans in hat Joe will not be phased fighting in the states, he is relishing this he really is, and I feel he will frustrate the holy hell out of Hopkins, and though I don't feel he will knock Hopkins out, I do feel that he may stop him with a later onslaught that Hopkins won't be able to cope with and the Ref intervening
Lets look at the two fighters today and be realistic in our assessments...This is a bigger fight for Joe and he will want it more...because like it or not HE IS STILL UNDEFEATED AS A PRO, all Southey's are prone to the right hand, but is to days Hopkins fast enough, or does he hit hard enough to single shot Joe out of it, I don't think so, is he busy enough to out work Joe, again I don't think so...
In all honesty, other than being in his own backyard, and getting rough....factors I really believe Joe is relishing, what else has Hopkins got...and before I get my head kicked in verbally by violent demise, please understand all I have typed is done out of an honest assessment of two Boxers I have the ultimate respect for, and not on some silly fan boy basis......
I honestly can not see what this years Hopkins has that in the past could not cope with Taylor, but can now cope with Joe Calzaghe...So Joe to win by three or four rounds with a possibility of a late stoppage, on accumalation rather than single shots....
Joe will win because he has to, and in the past when questions have been asked, he has always delivered, has Hopkins always delivered..... Ill say it one last time, I don't think so...
