When you're offered $8milion, a career high payday against the longest reigning champion in the division but you decide to take $5million fighting a lesser opponent. And then you change your name to money.

Oh and you retire on the eve of the 2 biggest names in the division fighting each other. That's pretty much the definition of duck that comes to my mind. Oh and you do all this and procalim to be the best at 147.

I find people going on about Joe and PBF ducking fights is ridiculous.

Start with Joe he is at the end of his career in his recent fights he has taken on the fights people wanted to see, how long can you keep taking on the new hottest contender, he has made no secret that he want to retire soon and in his last few fights he has taken on the dangerous young fighters (lacy and Kessler) and taken out the old guard. (Hopkins and hopefully Roy Jones) not a bad end to a career, but oh no there is a new young gun on the horizon two weight divisions lower who if he doesn't fight he is a "chicken shit turd" who's not worth shit!!

As for PBF he has now retired and if he hasn't he only has one fight left Cotto and Margarito are the two most exciting fighters at WW at the moment but lots can change in a year what if Margarito beats Cotto to then gets beaten by William's again would you all then be shouting for PBF to come back and fight William's otherwise he is an overrated pussy!!

My point is at the end of a fighters career who has has fought as well as these two have, they have both taken risks and achieved more than most, I don't mind if they finish off that career with a big fight that they want and dont take on every young gun on the scene till they get beat, they have earned it they have to retire some time

Idiots will always jump on a new bandwagon and say such and such a fighter is washed up because it makes them look more like a hardcore boxing fan but in truth both these fighters will go down as greats and shouldn't be accused of ducking anyone

I missed that one or I would have been all over it.

Joe Calzaghe ducks NO ONE! He will fight anyone who can make the weight. The only thing Joe can be accused of is the fact he insist on fights being at home but that is more Frank Warren then anything.

Joe Calzaghe ducking people? Fighting Old Men. Funny how that "Old Man" was one of the best in the sport before Joe beat him" he loses and age is now a factor?

Don't hate on Calzaghe just accept the greatness,

Your inner Chi will be much more at peace (just kidding)

Best example of a fighter running scared was Bowe in the 90s when he shamlessly ducky Lewis.

or Lewis ducking a rematch with Vitali, or a fight with Wladimir...but hey that ended up for the best, cause then Wladimir would have never gotten Emanuel Steward lol

I believe that a "duck" is defined when one fighter avoids or ignores the approaches of another fighter in a situation where there is no other logical opponent and it becomes apparent that a fight between the two is both profitable in terms of finance and legacy.

Lacy and kessler were younger, fuck Hopkins, you all wanted the fight right? wanted him to fight in the states right? Joe did it and won.

Now Hopkins was old and fighting in the states was irrelevant for Joe? If Joe said NO you have a right to say that. But you don't, he did the business.
Joe should have lost. What a robbery.

I don't like it when people accuse a fighter of "ducking" someone in order to make more money against someone else. After all, they call it "prize"fighting for a reason. These guys fight to get paid. Considering that any boxer's career can end at any time from any one punch, I will never fault a guy for chasing the biggest paycheck.

Like I said, a duck only occurs when the person being ducked represents the biggest challenge and the biggest paycheck to the fighter who is doing the ducking.
I have to disagree here because if that were the case, then we would never see the best fights that can be made in the rest of the history of boxing.

    LOL

Something somebody kind of alluded to before is how much the decision not to fight a guy is based on the fighter's decision or on the promoter's decision. Especially early in a fighter's career he might not be able to really call the shots on who he wants to fight or doesn't. Established veteran stars you would think would have the leverage to say I want that fight.
