Dont they tape delay all the footage in the States?? I know of many Americans that always watch the Canadian channels because its live. If you can get them TSN and CBC will show quite a bit of team USA stuff live.

    Look for the Flyweight preview

I apologise for not having updated in a while, but I've been extremely busy during last weeks, and has only been on Saddo's very sporadically. Next week, hopefully everything should be up.

Also, rep should be on their way for everyone who has contributed.

Any u guys notice the name of the Aussie 91kg fighter?

Brad Pitt. The guy is not to bad but only an outside medal hope. Got some press here in oz due to his name tho. Could help in a pro career.

For the sake of the other competitors, I have he doesn't have punching power like Brad Pitt did in the movie Snatch.

That makes it appear like Zou is in Warren's weight class, I thought Zou was a weightclass below him myself.

Not quite sure what you mean? Last time both contested in Light Flyweight (48 kilo). Since then Warren has moved up to Flyweight (51 kilo). So now Sou is a weight class below. Both are, as mentioned, reigning world champs' at their weigts and must be considered heavy favorites for gold medals.

Okay, so Frankie Gavin is out. A shame really, but the lightweight division still looks solid. I guess Audley Harrison might remain the only British gold-winner in the last 40 years though.

I will try to finish everything in this post by tonight - opening ceremony is tomorrow and so is the draw - but will just post a combined list of my guesses for gold. Sticking my neck out and all - feel free to laugh later. Also some possible surprises, or at least guys whose names will be better known in a few years.

    Light Flyweight:
    Gold: Zou Shiming (China)
Watch out for: Harry Tanamor (Phillipines)

    Flyweight:
    Gold: Raushee Warren (USA)
Watch out for: McWilliams Arroyo (Puerto Rico)

    Bantamweight:
    Gold: Sergei Vodopyanov (Russia)
Watch out for: Oscar Valdez (Mexico)

    Featherweight:
    Gold: Li Yang (China)
Watch out for: Albert Selimov (Russia)

    Lightweight:
    Gold: Alexei Tischenko (Russia)
Watch out for: Yordenis Ugas (Cuba)

    Light Welterweight:
    Gold: Rosniel Iglesias (Cuba)
Watch out for: Serik Sapiyev (Kazakhstan)

    Welterweight:
    Gold: Demetrius Andrade (USA)
    Watch out for:
    Billy Joe Saunders (GB)

    Middleweight:
    Gold: Matvey Korobov (Russia)
Watch out for: Naim Terbunja (Sweden)

    Light Heavyweight:
    Gold: Artur Beterbiev (Russia)
Watch out for: Carlos Negron (Puerto Rico)

    Heavyweight:
    Gold: Clemente Russo (Italy)
Watch out for: Brad Pitt (Australia)

    Super Heavyweight:
    Gold: Islam Timurziev (Russia)
Watch out for: Zhang Zhilei (China)

In an attempt to put my money where my mouth is, I've put 1£ on the combined lot (11 divisions). Potential payout: 40.000£

    Excellent thread

How much are you guessing about the guys to "watch out for?" Ive been looking at the odds, some of your picks are 100/1 shots.

Have huge outsiders won in the past?

To be honest I picked Brad Pitt only by his name Naim Terbunja is the best fighter out of Scandinavia this year wherefore I would like to believe he had a shot at something (Swedish press has much higher hopes for him than for teammates Badou Jack (representing Gambia, but born and raised in Sweden and from same gym as Terbunja) and Kennedy Katende at least). From what I've seen his style fits even better for pro boxing, so expect to hear a bit more about him in the future. This time round, well, dont put your money here, I guess. Zhiley I know next to nothing about, but for some reason I just fancy the idea of a Chinese Super Heavyweight. And who knows what happens at home turf?

Valdez and Negron are young upcomers who may or may not have something great in them. And they are going by _huge_ odds, so a bit of money might make sense. See also Amat and Macho's posts in this thread.

The rest could conceivably win medals, perhaps even gold.

So Russia is the only country represented in all the weight classes right?

    Good stuff.

Good point about the Chinese SH.

Although.. I would fancy the "conspiracy" more if they didn't have a hot gold medal favourite - and a couple of more decent chances.
