I agree. Margarito is not the better fighter. I think Cotto can still beat Margarito if Cotto can make his skill effective on the WHOLE fight. Gotta respect Margarito's power and stamina. It really slowed Cotto. Cotto must work on his stamina IF theres gonna be a 2nd fight.

He does have the ability to and there can be no denying that. But he wont though, because he simply cant resist getting caught up in a brawl. For that reason Margarito has his number and always will have his number.

I made a night of this fight and I had 2 very well known boxing fans watching and 5 friends who are not that clued on boxing and let me tell you what they (we) all said.

Cotto was winning the fight early and it was looking he had Margarito's number but then Margarito f**king battred Cotto, Cotto was Busted up big time.

We were all thinking, ok if this goes to points who you got? but Margarito took care of that!

    Tijuna Tornado.. nuff props!

Cotto showed the 'slick crisp skills' that everyone raves about on here.

But in the end got BATTERED INTO SUBMISSION!

He got rocked heavily in the 9th (i think it was), it was from a left hook.

Cotto's 'slick crisp straight punches' (as everyone loves to use here) did no damage at all to marg's chin and he never slowed down and was never hurt at all, hence why he was able to keep coming at cotto.

Cotto is a great boxer, but i cant see him beating marg in a rematch, marg is too tall and with too long a reach, thus when they fight on the inside, up close against the ropes and esspecially in the corner, it is v hard for cotto or any of marg's opponents to escape from the uppercuts and hooks, even if they arent accurate they still wear down the opponent. A shot that hits the arms or shoulders STILL DOES DAMAGE TO A FIGHTER...after theyve recieved these shots for 11 whole rounds, it adds up and the guard starts to drop. Cotto's guard was wrecked, he had been rocked in the fight earlier and was rocked again in the 11th, he had no stamina left at all in round 11 and it was a choice of going down and retiring OR being brutally ko'd at the end of the 11th or midway through the 12th.

I feel sorry for miguel, but in the end marg showed he is relentless. I cant see this having another result should there be a rematch either, miguel's stamina drops at the later stages of a fight and marg keeps on getting stronger.

If marg fought floyd, what would happen?

Most likely we'd see yet another totally boring negative fight on floyds behalf (that so many people on here seem to love), floyd would be doing his ol' jab, run, clinch tactic time and time again, occasionally ending up by the ropes and showing his speed at evading marg's shots (although i cant see how hed evade the uppercuts, theyd at least hit floyds guard or shoulders)...floyd has less power than cotto but more speed, it would be a classic negative fight from floyd who knows theres no way he can ko marg so will act like a mosquito trying to buzz around marg and sting him with single pot shots.

Many people on here seem to love this display of boxing, however i find it very boring, i dont care if its the whole 'short sharp crisp single skillful punch' thing that people rave about, it makes a boring fight with no possible ko victory for floyd, just a case of floyd trying to be negative and do just enough to cruise to a points victory...another classic boring win for floyd.

However unlike other fighters floyd has faced, he wont be able to avoid marg's uppercuts on eth ropes and in the corners, they will at least hit floyd guard...nor will floyd's punches hurt marg (cotto couldnt even stun him, so how can floyd) so marg will keep hunting floyd the whole fight, even the later rounds...all it takes is floyd to be rocked only once and marg will smell the blood and be on the mosquito like a piranha to a corpse.

I think chances are that it would be a floyd win by decission, but if anyone is gonna batter floyd up then it will be marg, simply by outpressuring him. id love to see a real cracker of a combo unleashed onto floyd in the corner with floyd being trapped in by marg's long reach and towering frame over him. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW DELIGHTED AND CRAZY THE CROWD WOULD GO IF FLOYD GOT KO'D...MARGARITO WOULD BE A HERO!!!

Yo, why you talkin about Floyd, f**k him, (i agree with your pionts 100%) but Floyd turned Margarito down and now id further evidence of why, I still fell Cotto beat Floyd, but like I say this is not about Floyd, Floyd will always be a no 3 fighter never an all time great, Cotto f**king but his sh*t out there "blood for blood" don't talk to me about Floyd he's a business man not a fighter!

Of course it did, I also noticed blood in his mouth in the middle rounds and by the end he was spitting blood. Of course that affects you, it's impossible for it not to. It's not the sole reason Margarito one but definitely was a reason behind Cotto's loss. It's also no coincidence that when Cotto finally caved in, his face was at in it's worst condition of the fight.

Personally I think it was the massive bombs that affected him.

Definitley! Cotto was panting heavily in his corner after the 3rd round and was causing him to tire faster. Cant take anything away from Tony though he did it to him.

Smile Re: Did Cotto's nose affect him?

I once watched a Cotto fight maybe 2 yrs ago where he was cut over his eye and bleeding pretty steadily. He got cut around Round 6 or 7 and he was on his way to viciously knocking his opponent out. Once he saw his own blood, he became like Ivan Drago being cut in Rocky 4. He suddenly became more tame and afterwards, he told the interviewer, "the blood saved him." Maybe someone else remembers the fight. It was when he first started to learn English. So I do believe that Cotto is/was greatly affected by being bloodied, or cut, or having his nose broken. But I wont take any credit away from Margarito. His relentless approach had as much to do with Cotto's reaction, if not moreso, than Cotto's nose.

He didn't get rocked once from what I saw. Also why are you talking about Floyd? Margarito wouldn't be able to catch Mayweather on the ropes, and if you didn't have your head so far up your ass you would be able to see that. Cotto CAN'T move like Mayweather, Mayweather is tailor built to make Margarito look like a fool. Did you see in the early rounds where Cotto brings his hands down and dodges everything Margarito throws? If he can do that then Mayweather would be almost impossible for Margarito to hit. Also Margarito one inch of reach on Mayweather, and 2 and half inched shorter arms. If Mayweather has faced anything its pressure fighters, Watch Ndou, a tall guy, with limited boxing skills who can punch and throw a million punches. The difference between Ndou and Margarito is a great chin, but that fight shows, and the Baldomir fight that MAyweather can hit a guy he can't effect at all and not get hit in return.

As for this fight Cotto's defense or guard was only wrecked because he got tired, when you get tired you tend to get sloppy defensively. If Cotto's nose was broken, Margarito did it by punching, but thats one of those thigns thats just the luck of the draw. If his nose isn't broken, he can breathe everything is fine because Cotto is in better shape than what last night showed, and it obviously has to be the nose and the mouth bleeding.

If you agree with him then your a dumbass. Other people are bringing up Mayweather, and if you followed boxing at all the only chance Mayweather and Margarito had a chacne to fight Mayweather also had a chance to fight Baldomir for hte unified welterweight championship for the SAME amount of money. Now if you watch Baldomir against Vernon Forest you knwo he can walk through anything, but that isn't enough to face guys who are good moving backwards. Mayweather would beat Margarito, Forrest would, there are plenty of guys who would beatMargarito THAT is why he has 5 loses on his record. Whereas there is many only one or two guys that can beat Cotto while he does way better than Margarito ever would against a pure boxer because Cotto actually has skill, speed, etc.

Now I'm not trying to make an excuse, but of course him not being able to breathe through the nose is going to effect him. Not getting enough oxygen, does effect your stamina.

Just remember, Israel Vazquez quit on his stool, in his first fight with Marquez, because he could not breathe through his nose.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Tony here, I'm just saying that it does have an effect on a fighter.

It's a valid arguement I saw harder punches land from Mosely across 12 rounds and Cotto did start backing off because he was bleeding in his mouhti n that fihgt, but he was still throwing back the whole fight. Against Ndou and Abdullaev Cotto was throwing punches back the whole time even though he couldn't hurt them. In the first 6 rounds Margarito wasn't really landing that much at all, I think compubox was scoring a lot of punches Tony was hitting Cotto on the gloves and shoulders as landed punches, but a broken nose can be the worst thing to have against a guy who makes you work every minute of every round. I just rewatched the fight, and I could see Cotto winning a rematch with one better thing, Stamina, and I firmly believe that was a result of a broken nose, which Margarito broke, and Margarito walked through the equivalent of the london bombing so credit goes to him.

Of course it affected him but that's boxing. Margarito busted him up and that's what happens. What's the point? Besides, if you watch at the end of the 10th, Cotto was not even really bleeding yet but he looked ready to go. He was clearly worn down already and the nose just added to it...
