Povetkin injured!
Klitschko-Povetkin delayed to early 2009
"Alexander Povetkin has suffered a training injury, leaving him unable to challenge IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko as scheduled on December 13th," Sauerland Event attorney Scott Shaffer informed Fightnews.com by email. Povetkin is the IBF's #1 heavyweight contender. According Shaffer, the Russian gold medalist was running in the woods in his hometown of Kursk when he tripped over a tree root and injured his left foot. Povetkin was examined by a local doctor and then immediately referred to Dr. Sergey Aschipov, Ph.D., a sports injury specialist in Moscow who frequently treats Russian Olympic team members. Although Dr. Aschipov's full diagnosis is not expected until Monday, an MRI was conducted revealing that Povetkin suffered a partially torn ligament in his left foot. The injury will leave him unable to train until the end of November. He is currently wearing a brace on his left foot and is awaiting the doctor's final diagnosis and advice on the appropriate physical therapy.
