I think it's a big risk (if it happens ).

AS long as Barrera isn't coming for the payday - which could see him turn up fat, take a few clumps then sit it out.

At this stage he is not COMPLETELY "gone", is he?

He's NOT coming out of retirement. He's still active and there's been talk of him landing a "world" title shot at lightweight.

I can see Khan seriously BOTTLING it.

Khan is signed up to a multifight PPV deal with Sky. Last time around they put him on the same card as Pac-ODLH so it was always going to sell but next time they need people to buy the PPV for the Khan fight. Taking on an aged Barrera will sell the PPV easily and with some luck MAB will have diminished enough for Khan to take the win (although i'm not so sure), plus Barrera will certainly not be the heaviest puncher at lightweight and Khans biggest weakness is his chin so what seems to be a risky move by Warren may well turn out ok for him and Khan.

Personally I hope Barrera kicks his ass!

Kahn may be holding his own agains Pacquiao in sparring bu how many first rounds does Amir get in sparring?

He only ges one in a fight with someone of Barreras class, what I mean is Amir wouldnt be winning every round of sparring and like someone has said on here, 1 quick win back hasnt taugh him anything, he'll be back to the same open defenced syle when in front of a home crowd, showing off against an old fighter, who deffinitly still has enough left to embarrass kahn.

    seriously though good call...

i think the hype has gone with khan and this will get it right back and don't forget to the averages UK fan he's taking on the guy who beat Naz.

anyone see Barreras last fight as i think it went un-noticed in the boxing world which speaks volumes on how much he has left.

    smart move by Sports Network.

but a massive gamble and unfortunatly one they will lose as i still see Barrera Sparking Khan in the first round
He made weight and ko'd the guy in the second round. All he needed to do.

If this fight happens I'll be waving my Mexican and English flags with pride.

Very good fight IMO.. baring in mind Khan is a massive lightweight and lightweight is a little above Barreras natural weight, I can see a UD for Khan, Barrera might be a bit past his best but he will still have enough natural instinct to avoid being KO'D.

Still say Amir will come back and be a threat and think he's in the best possible hands over in the US with Roach and sparring with Manny Pac (who also rates him very highly after sparring with him).
Maybe this is the real start of Amirs career now all the showbiz bollocks has left him and people generally don't care as much anymore.
One thing i've noticed is that he's not in the papers a fraction of what he was this time last year which is only gonna help him and fire him up.
Great fighters can come back from KO's like he suffered and History backs this up so let's get behind the boy and see what he's learnt from that Prescott fight when he meets a real seasoned pro.
All i'm saying is don't right someone with that much natural talent off too quickly
    Margarito has never been stopped

I gotta say i think this is an excellent move. The man to pretty much end Hamed. Brilliant promotion.

Seen as Kahn has been so quiet on the media front over here since his move to Roaches gym, what a way to put Kahn back on the map. Undoubtably a risk but winnable all the same.

Will be looking forward to this one......

I wouldnt rule Barrera out too easily.

He is class and I dont think he knows how to lose.

It would be a good fight for Amir but does it come too soon?

This signiture is up as ante in a 'sig-bet'. Wanna bet anyone?

Cracking nights action as Warren has Nicky Cook, Enzo Mac and Kevin Mitchell all on the same card.
Credit where credit it is due and Warren has pulled out all the stops here and deserves some respect for putting on what is set to be a brilliant night of fighting.
Shame it's on PPV (Sky Box office) really

"Barrera says he wants to win a world title at lightweight. “I know there’s not much time left,” Barrera said in a recent interview. “I have three, maybe four, fights left, but I want that fourth title.”
Nicky Cook, Enzo Maccarinelli and Kevin Mitchell are all due to box on the same bill which will be broadcast on Sky Box Office."

I think Khan may well get battered here as Barrera is as hard as they come and if he's serious about wanting his 4th title is still gonna be a massive force.
Maybe a chance for Amir if he can use his brain and box on the outside (a small one granted) But he always seems to get involved in a toe to toe which is suicide against someone like Barrera.
This is still sinking in for me and i'm shocked he and Warren have taken this route....maybe he gave Frank an ultimatum and left him no choice and threatened to jump ship if these sort of fights were not gonna be coming his way this year.

    Latest William Hill betting Odds.

AMIR KHAN is set for a sensational next fight, taking on seven times World Champion, Marco Antonio Barrera - one of the all time greats, who finished the career of Prince Naseem. And William Hill believe Khan has a real chance of winning the fight against the 34 year old, making Barrera 1/2 favourite, with Khan 6/4 and the draw a 20/1 chance. 'As Oscar de la Hoya showed recently, fighters often grow old in the ring and suddenly find they have nothing left in the tank. Barrera has had a long, active career and just might find Khan's speed and power overwhelming him. But he also has great experience and will know that Khan can be knocked out, so Amir will have to come of age and fulfill his full potential to win this one' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. Hiills make Barrera 11/8 to win by knockout, with Khan 9/2 to do likewise.
**KHAN is 4/1 with Hills to win a version - IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO- of the World title during 2009.
    WILLIAM HILL ODDS:
    1/2 Barrera v Khan 6/4 - Draw 20/1
    11/8 Barrera by KO/TKO
    11/4 Barrera on Points
    9/2 Khan by KO/TKO
    3/1 Khan on Points

well, boxrec still has Barrera fighting at the end of the month. If that goes ahead as a tune and goes without incident I see that as positive for Barrera. More time to adjust to the weight (it's not his natural division and Khan looks big at the weight) and knock off some ring rust.

I read on the BBC forum, someone said it was either a masterstroke or professional suicide.

I expect Khan/Roach/Warren to be looking to use Khan's hand and foot speed against Barrera.
