You guys bitching and moaning about the weight and split can save it. No one forced Cotto to take the fight. He has a team of negotiators who settled on those terms with the Paquiao camp. If Cotto and his team are satisfied with the terms, then there's no reason anyone else should care. 145 is a welterweight fight by definition, period. It's perfectly legitimate for the belt to be at stake and Cotto doesn't have a problem with it.

Hey Cotto and PAC can negotiate and fight at whatever weight they agree to that's fine, that's not the problem I have with this. MY problem is that this is for a title. It is not up to PAC and Cotto to determine what the welterweight limit is. If it's going to be for a welterweight title Cotto should be able to come in at the WW limit. Everything else the purse split, and all other negotiations, I could care less about. It should be a great fight and entertaining, but it shouldn't be a title fight. If PAC wins it's not like he's going to defend the title anyway.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

What ever happen to the good ol boxers who fought for Glory and their only price was to be the better man that night?
They were the true champions!
Yes! Surely the belt is online for the upcoming mega fight between Pacquaio and Cotto.
Who will win? Let see on the boxing date.
i say the catchweight is not in favor of pac he doesnt have an edge really. cause at fight night cotto will weigh at whatever weight he wants to.
catchweight is there just to even things out, odlh agreed to a catchweight and all of us thought the he will pummel pac. so we were fine about it only until after the fight.
people whinned that pac manipulated dlh to go down too low so he has the upper hand. if dlh won that fight nobody will ever mention the catchweight thing.
A welterweight boxer weighs in at between 140lbs and 147lbs.
if lets say pac won the belt and clottey wants a match both of them can fight between 140lbs to 147lbs. since pac is smaller and clottey is bigger then the catchweight comes in to even the fight out.
is it really hard to understand?
either which way im glad pac will fight a bigger boxer, unlike others who will just pick on smaller or dominate a lower weight class which everybody knows he can. atleast pac is up to the challenge.

:even if the money was right....some one will lose their mouth piece come fight night"

2 of my 3 favorite fighters fighting this is weirdly GREATTTTT!!!
I don't want Cotto to be seriously hurt in this fight but I'm really praying hard that Manny wins his 7th division championship, Manny please give it your mighty BEST. This is mighty HISTORY in the making. Goodluck to both fighters.

Thats funny because any weight between 141 and 147 IS welterweight. 147 is the Welterweight "limit" its not the weight that makes you a weltweweight otherwise if any fighter came into a fight weighing 146 they wouldn't say "he is in great shape" they'd say "go gain a pound to make this official"
There is just a contracted weight for 145 which is still welterweight. 145 is above 140 and beneath 148 so this fight is at welterweight...
Not that I agree with this catchweight stuff but I thought that'd be worth pointint out

Alright I had to come back from the dead to chime in on this one...Heres the thing, a welterweight fight can and should be within the Welterweight limit. Manny and Cotto can both weight in at 145, fine. BUT, Manny and Cotto should be able to weigh in at 145 and 147, respectively. Both scenarios are within the limit. The greater problem is the ethical dillema: What if tommorow WBA Welterweight Champion Shane Mosley announces that he is defending his tiltle against...Clottey for instance, but states that he will only defend it if he and Clottey both weight in at 142. Is that fair and is that acceptable. The answer is, no. At least in my opinion. What if Valuev stated that he will only defend his title at 330 pounds, is that fair and should the WBA accept that?
