A few years back I was doing my usual sunday powerwalk with my headphones on, it's fairly rural and I've lived here for years....anyway I'm marching down the lane and turn to come back up a path and head for home. Not to marginalize, this stuff does happen, everywhere and always has and it's terrible. Has happened to a friend of mine just last year, well something similar. These kind of things happens all too often in too many countries. Rape is an extremely common crime out here and usually leads to only a suspended sentence. The following story is particularly gruesome. Boys started to sodomise their juniors and then moved on to the girls. This happened for 2 years and even then the school tried to hush it up. After all, you cannot afford to lose face! There are some screwed up people out there.

I had to work a lot about the death sentence in ethics and actually, it fosters crimes more than it stop it according to the studies over the thing because peoples think then "I have nothing to lose" as they know that their fate is sealed so they commit even more crimes because in the end, it won't change much. MOre severe measures should be enforced for sure but death sentence sure ain't the solution.

It's a major problem in rural societies overall mate. They have an almost identical problem among the Mormon community in the US, with some of its leaders practicing paedophilia on a wide scale to keep themselves young or some bollocks like that.

South Africa as a whole has a major problem with regard to rape though, although as you say it is a much more mixed-race country than any other in Africa.

As you said Jaz its education and then back to parenting color doesnt enter into it the white are just as visous,even more so I think in regards to premeditated rape torture then murder.( Ive not read anything so warped as many of the white perps of those types of crimes and here in Australia they seem to take the cake for the most sickening ideas of prolonged toruture.
