Default Roy Jones is an ATG, a one-of-a-kind fighter

People can talk shit about how his career has gone the last 5 years, or say that he never fought anyone good in his prime (which is pure ignorance).

But one thing I know, and there is no one on this earth who can convince me otherwise, is that PRIME Roy Jones is 1 of a kind. There will never be anyone who will be able to do what he could in the ring. He was one of this generation's greatest fighters, and just like SRL is judged by his prime and not his later fights, I think Roy deserves that same courtosy.

I'll go on record as saying that these is no 168lber or 175lber in the history of boxing who I would pick to beat a prime RJJ. Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Billy Conn, Michael Spinks, ect, would all come out on the short end of the stick against prime RJJ IMO.

It doesn't matter what Jones has done since the first Tarver loss really. No man beyond 36 ever gets any better in boxing. Some might have lasted longer than Jones, but they are no 'better'. The man likes to fight and he has continued to do so, there is no great shame in that. It doesn't detract from his earlier career in the slightest. Tyson is none the worse for losing to McBride and Williams and Ali is nothing less for losing to Berbick. Old fighters lose.

He's in his 40's now, older than both of the previously mentioned fighters....

Jones only went downhill after he boiled himself down after his HW win over Ruiz , and that is a fact.

Yup. Look what happened to Chris Byrd when he boiled himself back down to 175. He looked slow, sloppy and his iron chin was gone.

Totally agree he's still one of my favorites along with Pernell Whitaker, it just really frustrates me that he didn't retire. Just imagine if he would of retired after the gusty performance vs Antonio Tarver. Or if he would of retired after the John Ruiz fight.

Roy is the best fighter I have ever seen, better than JCC, Whitaker, B Hop, Tyson, Lewis, Manny Pac, Floyd, Morales......

He would've been top 10 of all time on any list! I remember the euphoria around him after he beat Ruiz, people were talking about him being the greatest p4p fighter of all time.

Agreed. He should have retired after the win over Ruiz. Jones will always be high on the list of ATGs IMO. He was a one-of-a-kind fighter and it's sad that he probably has more fans now than when he was wiping out whole divisions.
