I believe Tyson was phenomenal but he has become like a folk tale hero and people freely exaggerate about how great he was and honestly he had a very weak era until later in his career and he was fed loads of tomato cans early on.
Why do you think they feared reataliation? Don't you think that it wast because he was an awesome fighting machine? Why has no other heavyweight since (and possibly before) ever been so feared by their opponents. Were they all just deluded and conned into believing his was great, becuase he was an ugly scary mofo. Me thinks not! They feared him becuase of how good he was - Simple

Check out the right, left of Bruno's shots on Tyson at the last 50 seconds of the first round.Bruno was close to stopping Tyson,if only he backed off a bit and sat on his punches cleaner on Tyson while he was on the ropes after he clocked him with that great left hook.

Check the shot of Bruno at the last 50 seconds of the 1st round.Tyson's legs buckle and he holds of for the first time in his career.
James Tillis come quite close to beating Mike Tyson back in 1986, before Mike Tyson won the title. He won 4 out of the 10 rounds, and had he not got knocked down, which was basically him lunging in stupidly getting caught off balance, it possibly could of been a draw. Because that was James Tillis's best round of the fight.

As others have mentioned, Tony Tucker rocked Mike Tyson in the 1st round with an uppercut. Actually lifting him off his feet, that showed Mike Tyson's good chin and good balance, also Bonecrusher Smith rocked Mike Tyson with seconds left in the fight, after hugging for the other previous 35.48 minutes.
