His post fight brain scan didn't even show up the slightest of concussions....unsurprisingly so i think he's probably clear.

Granted i don't have same neurological contacts as Taeth so take that with a pinch of salt.
We happen to have a neurologist at my gym so that's so unbelievable? Do other gyms not have physicians and lawyers that go to them? Where has there been anything that shows there was no sign of a concussion on any test they ran on him? You probably don't know they can't actually do a scan to conclusively prove whether somebody had a concussion or not? They use the scans to look for bleeds and such, but you wouldn't know that being such a dimwit.

In fact besides the symptoms it's very hard for them to diagnose a lot of cases where people get concussions. Despite all the funding that is going into it from football now. There is still so much we actually don't know when it comes to concussions, headaches, and brain trauma in general that all of your conclusions are pre-mature and poorly founded regardless of what happens from hear on out.

I'm not even saying that he didn't necessarily duck Andre Ward, but Abraham hit him with a brutally cheap shot because he knew he wasn't going to catch Dirrell with a big enough shot legitimately to win the fight. The one knockdown he scored, Dirrell was clearly hurt, but he dripped on Arthur's foot, and he took several other big shots after that and stayed up, and in the 11th he looked absolutely fine, look at that video on the first page, he was outboxing Arthur the same way he did for the entire fight that round.

It's funny how people watch things like when Hopkins fought Calzaghe with the low blow and say for sure he was faking, but I guarantee most of you have never been clipped in the top of the cup and have had it dig into the interior pelvlic region. It honestly hurts almost as bad as a low blow, and it doesn't even require that much force. But there are so many ignorant people that have never even participated in the sport for any amount of time, and they act like they are wisdom bearers' of the sport.

No, although they are capable of detecting a concussion, a CT scan or an MRI will check for a more serious injury, although if there is a serious concussion, MRI imaging, combined with a neuroligcal examination would detect it
You see, Wikipedia trains at my local gym aswell.

The hospital certainly wouldn't release such a high profile fighter unless they were 100% sure he was fine. They didn't even keep him in for overnight observation. He was in the hospital for 3 hours. I've spent longer in there for a sprained ankle.

That was a quick 90 days symptom free Pathetic really, I can understand not wanting to take Ward at this stage for whatever reason, but this is just ridiculous to concoct some kind of brain injury to get out of it and be back in action months later.

....direll is full of shit we all knew that, but he's just one bullshitter in a sport full of the stuff. Direll beat the shit out of abraham for all but a couple of minutes of that whole fight but everyone's focus is on the one or two min abraham was coming back ??!! Ridiculous. One guy was better that night end of. You can't praise this so called great power of abraham only when it suits your argument. He's this powerhouse of a puncher all except for the one punch he threw to the head of a defensless fighter down on one knee I've always said i highly doubt he did it on purpose but it doesn't matter. Accidently run a red light with a cop there and you get a ticket. Don't blame the cop. I don't know if direll was faking or not but after that punch was thrown who cares the fight was over. Direll is no more shady than margarito who people had no problem watching this weekend...why cause he's a better liar than direll ? Of course direll is fighting again, and people will pay to watch it that's why nothing changes. Look if there were people out there willing to waste thier time and money to watch haye and harrison then there will be those to support the rest of these guys no matter how they weasel thier way in and out of fights. Dirells dr is the same guy who magically healed maidana's back probably. All props to pac he fights whoever they put in front of him so i'm not trying to take away from his win. But he just claimed a bogus title in his 8th weight class against a guy who cheated, got blasted by mosely and looked extremly un impressive against garcia a guy who's fought no one and he still couldn't stop him...but he was going to beat pac ??!! Dirells not the only shady one in this sport. He's pulling the same bs they all are.....he's just not good at hiding it. And as long as fans accept it.......it will continue.

I can't believe the bitch move pulled by both Dirrell and Ward. Fuck them both. Dirrell (the bigger bitch) for stopping the fight. Ward for letting Dirrell stop it.

I completely understand calling Dirrell a bitch, but what does Ward have to do with it. I doubt Ward has that kind of power over Dirrell, to make him back out of the fight.

Maybe not the power. But he could of put pressure on him. He could of called him out. Done something. Or at least said something. This was all Dirrell's bitch ass doing. But Ward sure as hell didn't seem to have a problem with it

They can tell if there is cerebral cortex damage or bleeds in the brain, but they can't determine for sure whether somebody has had a concussion or not, it's not an exact science, its more symptom based, and general way of saying there is brain trauma that has been done. If there is no bleed and/or cerebral damage they don't usually keep people that long, they just need to make sure it won't have dire consequences. Often times they can't find anything only to have there be serious consequences for a patient, or in the case of a person who gets hit in the head for a living, it could progress more rapidly something that was already going in the brain. The problems Dirrell was said to have had are actually common symptomes for somebody that has suffered a concussion, and you aren't suppose to compete in activities where your head gets hit until they are sure the symptoms are gone. Once again I am amazed that you guys jump to a conclusion so quickly when these things are very unchartered territories, and they still have a lot of research to do before we can pin point a concusion like they do a broken bone.

That's a fair post, but it doesn't really take into account Dirrell's actions on the night. All the above does is basically say 'we don't have enough research to rule out a concussion' in anyone's case.

However, we can use our judgement from what we saw and from what we've seen from Dirrell since the incident...

    • Dirrell delayed his reaction to the punch. Now i understand delayed reactions do occur in KO punches, however, Dirrell's eyes seemed perfectly clear and he actually changes his expression as he looks at Abraham, as if to say 'why did you do that?' This is clear to see, and has been commented on numerous occasions. Dirrell then drops to the ground.

    • Once Dirrell awakes from being 'unconscious' he behaves in a strange way. However he shows signs of being fully aware of what is going on around him. At one point he takes offence to a comment made by a fan in the crowd.

    • Backstage, his doctor breaks away from treating him to give an interview with Showtime. Odd actions from a doctor who is treating somebody who has potentially a serious brain injury.

    • Dirrell is taken to hospital. The brain scans show no sign of serious brain injury and the neuroligical exam quite clearly doesn't show that Dirrell has any problems. If he did, it would be standard practice to keep him in overnnight for routine observation. This is especially true with Dirrell being quite a high profile case.

    • Dirrell later goes on to explain that he has a brain injury which will rule him out of a fight with Ward, but should heal up in time for him to compete soon after the proposed date for the Ward fight.

    • Dirrell is asked a few questions on fight camp 360. He forgets the name of his doctor, before reciting 'Dr Shaw (Gary Shaw happens to be his promoter so wonder how he came up with that name), before realising his error. After deliberation, he decided to go with Dr Shaw-High. Nice one Andre. You've done em' with that one.

    • He then decides he doesn't want to face any further questions.

Now i understand neurological problems can have delayed onsets, but if i know this, so do the doctors who treated him. Therefore, it's unlikely he would have been discharged from hospital after only 3 hours. I'd like to think he wasn't faking injury, but all of the above is stopping me from believing he was genuinely knocked out cold. Call me naive, but that's what i'm going with.

Dirrell definitely never had serious neurological damages otherwise he would have had many more scans and would have been forbidden MANY activities, which apparently he didn't. HE faked to make sure that Abraham was disqualified and then used the excuse to ditch a meeting with Ward, his old mate. No real neurologists would ever have ever let him start prior to these 3 months, especially with the symptoms that he described and for having been "out" for more than a minute and a half, which is considered EXTREMELY serious in the case of a head trauma.
As for the neurologist in a boxing Gym, maybe the guy's a doctor but a neurologist? I doubt so. These earn between 300-500K a year and are paid to be in the hospital watching many patients in critical situations. They would more send the injured boxer to an hospital to be watched by a neurologist. LEt's also keep in mind that not only do they cost a lot of money but they are also very very rare, it takes something like 6-7 years of extra University post your Doctor formation to become a neurologist.

Do anyone think if Dirrell was 2-0, he would have went alone with the fight?
Or if Ward showed some sort of flaw?

Showtime had a vested interest in Dirrell fighting Ward and Dirrell was contractually obligated to fight Ward. There is no way Showtime is naive in this matter and I'm sure they will pay close attention to Dirrell's actions going forward. It'll raise a lot of questions if he is granted a license to box in the near future after alleging such a serious injury. Showtime will sue him if it looks like he is making this up. Dirrell's career is in jeapordy either way - if he was honest about having health problems after the fight or if he lied to Showtime.

Taeth, how long do you think a boxer with an injury as serious as Dirrell is alleging should take off to be on the safe side of things? How extensively will he be examined by the commissions once he reapplies for a license to box? Is there a chance some commissions may not license him because of wanting to avoid at all costs another Michael Watson situation?

Dirrell is a fraud. He has manipulated and decieved his way out of the tournament because he knew a loss to Ward would be massively detrimental to his career. A loss to Froch, a dodgy win over Abraham and then a loss to Ward would spell curtains on him getting big fights for a good while. He has tried to duck out by claiming a brain injury and yet is already contemplating a comeback?

It's all far too obvious. I hope he gets his comeuppance.

The guy seriously needs to be checked by several qualified and unbiased doctors. Pathetic to say the least...
