    Default Big Tournament Coming Up

I realize I haven't posted much lately on here. been alot of shit going down in my life i might get into at some later point but it is pretty fucked at best.

    anyway

been trying to prepare for a big tournament coming up. It is the last year boxing will be at the Canada Winter Games, so team Ontario and the national team is going all out in helping us prepare, and been traveling to training camps for the last 3 months down south. We'll be flying out of toronto as a team with other athletes on the 19th, to arrive in Halifax for the week. They rented us a private jet for the flight which is kinda cool too, plus bought us all a couple of thousand worth of clothing, coats, podium jackets, everything basically to dress, all sorts of stuff, even a cheap laptop for it.

my training, aside from the down south stuff has been difficult. Been training with mma guys at a new gym as that is the only, and best training available for me within 300 miles. And it is subpar for boxing at best but the only decent sparring i can find. Am fighting in a division where i'll be the youngest fighter, and where a couple of the other guys are at world championship level, fighting globally, and one of them among the best on the planet. There are 7 people in my division. So if I am lucky and do well enough, am looking at possibly 3 fights in 5 days to make it to the final.

I realize I am pretty big underdog, but also feel i can pull it off if things go right and I fight my best. They will be televising the finals matches on TSN live for those in Canada, so if I make it I'll try to drop a link and maybe you guys can watch it go down live. But honestly, am just looking forward to the experience.

side wtf note in a series of the wtf year it has been.

*yesterday for some reason i lost my vision and could barely see. had to wear reading glasses to even see words a foot in front of me. (wtf wtf is that all about?) today my vision has come back mostly, but not totally sure yet what to do. go to the hospital i guess to get it checked, but also don't want to somehow find out i can't compete and get grounded from the games. this has happened for the 2nd time inthe last week, yesterday the worst. meh wtf.

Seems like a lot went on your side, boxing wise,

Last time, you were explaining us how your ex coach literally ripped you off and that you were trying to get back to your ex gym, what happened on that side? Have you been able to recover a part of the money that the guy stole from you? What did your ancient coach said about taking you back?

For the view, a much as you might not want to do it, I would go to the hospital asap and explain them how you lost vision and how long it did last. Sure, you don't want to miss your competitions for a second time but you want even less to mess up with your brain and our vision. That vision thing might be something quite inoffensive as the cause of too much stress to something more important. I say health first and go get some scans whenever you can to clarify if it's serious or not. The results shall determine what's next.

Been training at a top mma club as this is the best sparring I will get here. Although not a formal boxin club, the quality of sparring is far better then anything else at the old boxing club and its not even close. As far as my last offical (scumbag)coach, still waiting to press charges on him for theft. Not sure what will happen. Been thru a bunch of shit and he is being audited by the boxing board as well as other things, not sure of all. but pretty sure he's been ripping of fundraising stuff too and abusing the charitable donation status. trying not to worry about that tho, have too much on my plate and just focusing on being prepared. i am registered with a boxin club in southern ontario so will be fighting officially out of there for these games. Have 2 clubs I can fight out of, Chris Johnsons, and Leamington. Have an open invitation to go join there too, either one to continue with boxing training and they will make the arrangements for logging and financial stuff, but still not sure what im going to do.

just going to focus on the games here then deal with some personal issues here at home first, then see what happens.

    Hey Josh,

Sounds like tough times- see them as Dog Days man, the more you slog now, the more chance you give yourself in competition. I know that you will and can do it man.
Its always difficult when your gym partners are not competing on the same plain as you, but it means you've got to be innovative with your training.
You know if I can help at all in any way I will man, just shoot me a message. Have a few drills I use to sharpen if I'm low on training partners.

As for the vision thing, I believe deficiencies Vit D can have effects on eyesight- although that sounds severe.

Fuck your old coach man... It'll kill him when you win this.

Good luck with the boxing Youngblood.

Defo get your eyes checked out though mate, it's not good to be losing vision.

I have a similar problem actually that happens to me every now again, usually every few weeks. My right eye will start to blur and a black film goes across it, building from the right side of my eye to the left side. On severe occasions it will then pass over to the left eye and a couple of times (although not for a couple years) I have gone completely blind for a few minutes.

I went to the doctor who booked some hospital tests for me, as I was worried about tumours. They couldnt determine the cause but said I had small pieces of cholestral in my neck that would occasionally break off and cut off oxygen supply to the brain slightly which led to my vision becoming blurred.

I thought that sounded like a big deal but apparently it's not and they just said it was ok and to report back ifit got worse. I haven't really noticed it as much in the last year so am not worried.

Not sure if your eye problem is something like that but I would definitely get it checked. It will most likely be nothing to worry about but it's surely uncommon for a completely healthy 16 year old to start losing his sight temporarily.

Hope you have a great boxing tournament. Sounds like you have a lot of anger to unleash which may fuel you!

    thanks guys.

we are leaving next thurs or fri depending on weather, like if its bad a day early cuz the highways keep getting shut down to drive to toronto, then fly out on Sat. the opening games were on tsn2 last night. but i missed it lol. we re there for the 2nd week tho and will be there for the closing ceremonies an again i think is on tv. so with any luck can make the finals on live tv, and podium stuff etc. how cool is that?
