I'm an avid hunter and do hunt some predators (coyotes mainly) but I can say I'd never take a large predator like a Lion just for sport. Some predators kill livestock so I got no issue with hunting them but I pretty much eat anything I kill. Some how I doubt that lion was feasting on anyones cattle. And yeah fuck that kid.

They are incredibly smart. You have to make sure the wind is right and your call has to be right on or you will never see them. Bastards have killed multiple pets of mine and I never pass up the chance to put one down. The irony is that the coyote was largely contained to a small portion of N.
