Here is the problem as I see it for Martinez, he deserves a PPV big money pay date, but there aren't any fighters at his size that bring that kind of pay day. After Pavlik, Arum isn't putting any more of his people in with him any time soon. Pacquiao is too small for Sergio Martinez and Cotto and Margarito aren't on Martinez's level anymore. Floyd is getting paid tons for any fight he takes, and Floyd only takes money fights anyway. Pirog is fighting bums in Russia. And Art Pellulio (name?), who was Dzinziruk's US promoter and is Pirog's US promoter, won't put Pirog in with Sergio Martinez anytime soon. Kirkland? He isn't ready for Martinez and he doesn't deserve a fight with Sergio Martinez now - he's an ex-con who isn't even on televised undercards. He needs to beat a Dzinziruk/Angulo/Cotto level fighter before he gets in with Sergio Martinez.
Sturm may be the best option, but I doubt Sturm takes a Sergio Martinez fight. He's never given us any reason to believe he'll ever take a risky fight. I'm not sure how big of a pay day Sturm would provide, and frankly, how competitive he would be. Ward and Bute are too big for him, but maybe they are all that is out there.
Any ideas?
