Seriously though, I'm glad I no longer live down there cause the media is portraying it as a battle zone. Can't believe there could be so many people all piling in at the same time. If anyone's going down I'd love an Ipad though.

And the family of the guy who was shot that started it all off has said that none of this is in his name, and disowned the whole protest/riot.

Lots of you are talking shit. I have lots of friends in Croydon, which is on fire and people are now getting shot. My old local has burnt down next to the furniture store. Teenage hoodies are targeting Apple shops and luxury goods outlets. Young men and women are driving into Croydon with vans which they are loading with electronic goods. This is just about looting and destroying someone else's property. This is not a black or white issue, nor an economic one.

My friend is sat in her flat with two young kids terrified right now.

In the town centre in Ealing, saw a florist, tescos & betting shop all fully ablaze. Heard that the shopping centre is now burning up. Got into it with some of the fuckers who tried to jump on my car.

There been a load on my road smashin up cars, altho i sat in front of my car armed up with a bat and bally, so they didnt try nothin. I'll post 2moro about the reasons, but it's fuckin insane her & i dont think ill get much sleep 2nite

I've been saying it for a while, but the UK is a sinking ship and with a new Tory government it is only hastening the decline. Bailing out the banks, cutting back all services to the poor and generations of policies that breed selfishness and consumption and you end up with what the UK is today. I shall never return, it's a joke of a country.

There's a few things that have gotten to me tonight...

1. There has not been any statement from anyone from the police, the home office or houses of parliament who have made a statement that sounds even remotely threatening to a thief. Just 'we don't condone this opportunistic violence'.

2. The fact that Cameron has to sit down now and try to draw up some solution when there should already be a protocol in place for stag civil unrest is alarming at best. Just exposes the ineptitude of our government.

3. Surley, after 3 nights now, it's evident that this is only going to get WORSE untill a more forceful presence is at hand, like the army. Because right now, the police are completely overrun.

4. The English media has a massive task on it's hands now after MONTHS of effectively promoting the uprising of young muslims across North Africa, how must we look now to that part of the world? Like the softest nation that ever existed!

It's a weird one for me as I am all for anarchy and uprooting the system, but it is just vandalism to torch someone's car or steal a television. It doesn't make any sense to destroy your own community. Take to Westminster, knock down Big Ben and demand the head of Cameron, but don't torch your neighbors car. It is all very dramatic, but seems incredibly unelightened to me.

From what I read on news sites the riots in London kicked off because of some gang banging drug dealer that shot a policeman and then was killed by other officers. People were unhappy that the guy was killed, thus the riots happened and then started spreading amongst young people looking for some sort of excitement or be part of the mob mentality. That's what I also heard from British posters on various sites.

That's your story right there. Nothing to do with being unhappy with the political system or some sort of rebellion as you're trying to suggest Miles. Just mostly young people looking for kicks. But hey when shit happens people just gotta insert their political ideologies just like when that crazed Norwegian incident happened.
