If Mayorga was more active he might actually still be able to "be somebody" from 154-160. He has a good chin, good stamina, decent workrate, good power....damn shame that he just let all that slip away after the Spinks fight...granted he went the route of big money fighting Tito, ODH, Shane, Vargas, Cotto.

Imagine a prime Mayorga vs Margarito, Judah, Angulo, Kirkland, Canelo, JC Jr.....would have been nice to see

    Hell yes !

After he was jobbed against Spinks, I think Mayorga said fuck the system and stopped chasing glory and started chasing the big money.

I still think Mayorga could make good fights with Margarito and Kirkland and have a shot at beating either. Angulo too.

Has Mayorga won a fight since he beat Forrest? That was about a decade ago...You know why everybody picks him to fight, especially when they are coming back after a layoff or a loss? It is because he sucks, really, really sucks. You can hit him with everything you throw, he's slow, but he looks like he is trying. It is the same theory behind good bucking horses; you want one that you can ride but that looks like it is trying hard.

    Won a fight ?

    Lets see...

He defeated Michelle Picarilo for a world title.

He beat up and retired Fernando Vargas in an exciting fight.

He dominated journeymen Eric Mitchell and Michael Walker.

He was ahead on one scorecard going into the last round of a still formidable Shane Mosley before he was dropped, Mosley wasn't sent to a neutral corner and Mayorga was subsequently KO'd.

He also gave Cotto a hell of a fight before once again being KO'd in the last round.

Not bad for a guy who fights every 18 months and is then fed to almost exclusively elite competition.

That's what I get for not watching a fight for 5 years.

Not many people had a problem with him fighting Mosley whos 2 years older than Mayorga!

He also fought tentatively against Mosley like he was scared to get caught. I for one would love to see a fit prepared Mayorga swinging at him for a few rounds at least
You mean the Mosley who dominated and KO'd Mayorga when they fought (in one of the three fights Mayorga has been in in the last 4 years)? Mosley is at least a likely HOFer and was coming off of back-to-back fights (albeit pathetic "efforts") against the top 2 p4p guys in the world; Mayorga wasn't close to great even at his prime and is coming off of losses to Mosley and Cotto and a win over world-beater "Michael Walker." And he's even worse-preserved than Mosley.

Cotto, Lara, and Kirkland, in that order, are the fights they should try to make (they should try harder with Kirkland if the alternative is really a sideshow act like a shot Mayorga).

I seriously doubt there's any truth to this rumor.
The same Mosley that got battered by Forrest?

At that point, Mayorga would have walked through him. Mosley has admitted being a filthy little cheat to maintain where he was and probably used them to get there. He did jump a weight division and stay ripped.

Come on now. Mayorga himself admitted he lost the fight. Spinks was more interested in running than fighting but Mayorga having no idea how to cut off a ring is what lost him the fight

I don't know how anyone is expecting Mayorga to stay busy against easier opponents. He is 37, not getting any younger, and spent the last decade or so cashing out on his career which is based primarily on his '2' wins over Vernon Forrest and that's about it. Mayorga will seize any additional opportunity to cash out wholeheartedly because that is what 90% of his career is.

Wow, I know a lot of folks like to say "but he's only 21". Yeah, but it's getting ridiculous. Remember them floating the names of Acelino Freitas and even Maidana, for god's sake. Rosado, Lara, Molina, even Baysangurov are all better and more legitimate than many of the men they've considered thus far. GBP doesn't have to reach into lower divisions or retirement communities for Saul's opponents.
