A trainer can only do so much. Once the fighter is in the ring he's on his own. If Khan had followed Roach's fight plan he'd have scored an easy points decision or maybe a late stoppage. Khan got complacent dropped his guard & Garcia landed a very lucky shot that turned the fight on its head.
I remember a similar devastating hook that my good buddy in Texas Gene Mad Dog Hatcher scrambled Johnny Bumphus brains with to take the title. Gene called it the Hook from Heaven. Dang I thought old Lou Duva was going to have a litter of kittens that night

Hindsight is 20/20 ....I think Amir has weaknesses and Roach figured the best solution was to go 100% attack and that most opponents would back down from him. Well he's been proven wrong again. Amir should make his defense fit his offense, roll and counter man! Ronnie Shields wouldn't be bad for him either.

Agree. A trainer cannot fight the fight for you. I think Khan sold himself out trying to be something he's not, reading the headlines. Against Peterson, Maidana he got sucked in and lastnight he was just...wreckless and fighting like a coiled spring. I thinks he's a better boxer but lastnight he was taking shortcuts an already suspect chin cannot keep up with. I'm not sure Garcia wouldn't have tested it later anyhow.

Khan in the wrong gym? That's a tricky one to work through because sometimes it's a 50/50 bargain. I don't know gym politics or who's who, but I can look and see that Khan made a mental mistake that lead to a technical one. It could be that simple, it may not.

McGirt would have stopped that fight a lot sooner, probably shortly after the first knockdown.

Exactly, you can't overstate his lack of mentality. The guy makes Zab Judah look like Floyd Mayweather, and that probably isn't fair to Zab Judah

Khan for some reason now thinks he is a Tommy Hearns style blaster , he doesnt have the power at top level to fight like that.
He needs to tuck in his chin , and use his speed.
Lets face it Khan isnt that good really.

Yes but he would have better defense

Trainers are not socks, one size does not fit all. Trainers can help fighters if the fighter will listen. Some trainers can be the wrong choice for a fighter, too. You can't remake a fighter into the image of another fighter. Trainers can make improvements here and there but no one is going to to be training a batch of Mayweathers into existence. The best trainers know their fighters faults and strengths and try to suppress the faults and strengthen the other. I like Steward and Roach because they give the best advice during the fight.

Khan's chin is worse than you think. Watch any of his recent fights, but particularly the Maidana/Peterson fights. The bell for the first round goes and Khan is unbelievably quick, people struggle to get near him. Then eventually after a round or three they land a decent punch. Khan doesn't go down but he's seriously buzzed and his speed deserts him. Guys like Maidana suddenly are as quick as Khan is.

So it's not like he's in wars because he likes to fight like that, it's because he hasn't got any choice in the matter after he gets slowed down. And there's no way to fix this. If he moves back down to 135 he's so weakened he can get knocked on his arse by feather-fisted domestic fighters. If he moves up to 147 world alphabet level he gets badly sparked. And forget about tightening up his defence, he's going to get hit at some point no matter how he fights. All he can do is remain at 140 and take part in a few more entertaining wars for whatever world-level fights Golden Boy can make. Due to his unbelievably bad chin guys like Peterson and Maidana who don't have a fraction of his skill are Khan's level in boxing.

And when was the last time you watched a Vegas fight and saw a bunch of refs/judges sitting in the ringside TV seats? Cortez, Nady etc. They couldn't even give those seats away to casino customers? And all the empty seats in the arena too. Why do HBO and Golden Boy say Khan is any kind of draw in Vegas?

Does anyone know the official attendance?

I've always wondered how Khan has gotten so popular over in the states(according to himself). He was saying just last week that he is more popular in America than Kell Brook is in Britain. Not that Brook is particularly popular here but Khan sounded like he was Elvis when he said that.

I think that should be the next fight for each man now, with the winner moving up a level!

I'd like to know how many people actually paid money for a ticket. Anybody know?
