I've heard that Australia is fast becomeing the ultimate health and safety nanny state?
Yeah, well we are in a right state and our PM Julia Guillard looks like a nanny.
    So- Nanny state.

99% of what the government do is aimed at making money.

With the speed cameras it's the same but if the cameras are visible I can put up with them, it's annoying having to slow down but at least i don't feel fucked over, if i see the camera and still dont slow down it's my fault if i get points. It's when the bastards are hiding off country lanes and sitting out of view on bridges that pisses me off.

oh man, I got a find, 282 AUSD, Speed camra went 119 on a 100 road, it's not even speeding in my opinion, you have to speed up a little when you're passing someone. and 19 kms is nothing, But something even more annoying is all the shitty toll i have to paid. prolly paid 500 dollars only for toll road, 16-30 dollars every invoice....

    It's a total rip off.

It is bullshit and it makes me wonder why on earth we let governments encrouch our lives in such a way. Where was the public debate? There is never a referendum on anything important. They will never let you voice your views on the monarchy, speed cameras or the sheer nonsense of legal versus illegal drugs classifications.

"But my dear boy, you know, you do vote us in so that you can get to work in your wonderful pursuit of earning money to spend in the consumer, pardon, I mean the wonderful fertile garden of the democratic economy. I hope you don't think I look down upon you and don't think you incapable, but it is perfectly true that you are incapable and that I don't think that you look down in the least. Not on my Aunt Nellie, young voter you. You let me do my job and for sure your taxes will pay for things you don't want and your driving fines. And yes I'm fine, how about you? Jolly good, yes? I thought so. Now be on your way! There's a good voter. Be careful home, you wouldn't want to get a fine. I am too! Tally ho!"
