Red face Re: Is there anyone who thought Donaire won, or the fight was razor close?

Donaire just seemed lost for the majority of the fight.

Considering the circumstances, if I were generous then the fight would be 3 to 9 in Rigo's favor. The way I see it, Donaire only clearly won the KD round. Every other round Rigo either clearly won or they both got lost in subjectivity due to how inactive both fighters were.

Simply put, Donaire blew it. He didn't dig deep enough. It's such a shame because he has the skill set to AT LEAST make this a more competitive fight, a more even fight. Rigo pulled out the same tricks and Donaire kept playing into them over and over. Donaire would throw lazy jabs and Rigo would make him pay for it. Donaire keeps swiping his left hook over the top of Rigo's head, Rigo would pivot out, sometimes getting away with a hit before he ghosted.

I'm going to go so far as to say Rigo got knocked down partly because of Donaire's power and partly because Rigo was expecting a break. Because he was not seriously hurt.

    This fight was not close.

I gave Donaire rounds 4, 7 and 10 . So my card is 116-111 . Not close at all. If Donaire wouldn't land that shot that knocked Rigo down, he would probably lose the round lol

Rigondeaux negated Donaire throughout the fight, it wasn't pretty, but he was effective. Donaire simply had no plan B when it was very clear that Rigondeaux's use of the ring was causing Donaire problems. Rigo was not going to fully engage Donaire at close range and get nailed like Vic or Montiel. Donaire failed to adapt and apply enough pressure, by mid rounds Rigo knew Donaire was not going to land anything substantial enough to upset his own ring plan. I doubt Donaire can beat him again in a rematch?

Round 5 and 2 were very close. I can definitely see an argument for Donaire in those 2. Giving Donaire makes it 114-113, a close fight, or giving the 2 rounds even, 116-113 again close enough

But sweet jesus, I don't see how the fight was close at all. Yeah there was not much happening, but you have to figure there was one guy who had complete control of the ring and was consistently landing the clean, effective punches.

Yeah if you count Compubox totals the rounds seemed close, but Compubox will often give guys credit for punches that are glancing blows, half blocked, blocked entirely, and sometimes punches that miss the target entirely. I don't think there is any question that Rigo was landing the clean, effective blows in the fight, with the exception of course of the knockdown and the nice counter hook he nailed Rigo with early on.

It's always interesting when a fight like this comes up because you get to see the difference in which fight fans view boxing. I suspect a lot of people gave Donaire rounds he got lit up in just because he was moving foward (boxing rewards "effective aggressiveness", not just "aggressiveness").

Anyway I'd love to hear some people justify a close fight or even a Donaire win. Maybe you guys saw something I didn't. I saw Rigo taking Donaire to school.
I don't know about "school", but Rigon got the better of Donaire who was ineffective, due mainly to Rigon slipping or moving away from his punches. Rigon winning 116-111 sounds about right to me.

I had it close but I gave it to Rigo 7-5 on the cards.

I had it 2-2 after 4 but I didn't once have Donaire ahead in the fight. I should point out that my Sky cut (no signal) 2 minutes into the 11th. At that point I had Donaire winning the round because he'd landed the harder shots but I read reports that Rigo gave him a beating the the last minute so my scored may have changed to 8 rounds to 4. Gave it what I'd seen to that point though.

Just watched the replay of this last night...this fight was not close AT ALL. Were some of you watching the same fight?! Rigo completely outboxed and outclassed Donaire.

Downloaded a torrent of the fight yesterday and have watched it twice. The only rounds I gave Donaire were the second and tenth. Rigo's movement away from the left hook was just too much for him to handle. I can think of only a few times he was even in position to land it, let alone effectively. At times saw Rigo when under pressure and about to be pushed to the ropes land a lead left on the move before pivoting away and under a possible left hook which was nice to see and a sign that he's adding some more wrinkles to his pro game. As for it being a boring fight, yeh some of the middle rounds were absolute stinkers but in my opinion Rigo's entitled to use his low risk style. The guy's risked everything already just to be able to fight pro. He's lost his family, friends and country so if he's got the skills and knowledge to take an early lead on the cards and the champ that's talked all this shit about knocking him out cold doesn't want to take the risks he should be then it's Donaire's fault and no one else's. Plus the times Donaire actually used his much vaunted power Rigo came back harder almost everytime. Rigo is a legend in the making, his ability and story are incredible and if you put him in with the same brawlers Donaire's been in he'd seem entertaining as well. Add the fact that his gold teeth are his Olympiic medals

Talk about nailing it on the head.

A few of us prior to the fight discussed the transfer from amateur to pro. Many on forums dismissed his 400 fights as not applicable.

What are you saying here? He melted down his medals or sold them off to pay for teeth work
