Harry Gibbs and Henry Cooper, both sadly deceased, true quote after the Cooper fight.

Henry - 'I thought I nicked it Harry'
Harry - 'Henry - Champions don't nick fights'

My Joe Bugner memorabilia collection has now doubled in value! Bring it on Joe! (and I think 63 is a bit kind, he's one month younger than me, and I am 64)
Who knows eh? I mean look what Foreman did after 7 years. Consider the state of this soft division. He's probably coming out of retirement out of frustration having been witness to it.

If it is an exhibition, it will not (rather should not) count on his record. Nor should it be scored.

Yeah, on a freezing October night at White Hart Lane. Arguably Bruno's finest performance, and listening to the post fight interview a few days later, Bugner was in fine form too: "The referee was a bloody disgrace!" And when asked if Bruno had a chance against Tyson: "That is a different kettle of fish; Tyson is 21 not 37..."

'Beat the living hell' is a bit of an overstatement, I was there with the other 14 Joe Bugner supporters. The referee stopped the fight when Bugner took a knee, some would say prematurely. As for 'beat the living hell' Joe looked allright in Stringfellows straight after the fight!

I'm sure I remember Bruno kept hitting him whilst he was taking a knee.

Oh he was trapped in the ropes. Bruno then threw him out the ring. And was still clumping him well after the bell went.

I agree with Bugner, the ref was a disgrace.

Good article here about Bruno v Bugner, didn't realise it was Barry Hearns first night of boxing promoting.

Blimey, it wasn't even shown live. An hours delay which was only made public two days before the fight, as Hearn had said it wont be broadcast live on TV all along.

They offically announced it in September, the fight took place in October.

It was only 25 years ago. Are we even on the same planet?

Sadly, that sums up Joe. Instead of giving it is all in the fight, he was giving it his all with his mate Peter. Just glad to of made a good pay day...

Its amazing really, Bruno was a huge huge star and anyone with a tv knew who he was fight fan or not.

    Those were the days..

I used to LOVE midweek sports special and still remember the music

Boxing used to feature heavily on that and Grandstand.

I saw Haye v Thompson on grandstand and think it was one of the last fights they showed?

Maybe satellite tv killed off boxings popularity and not the dodgy matchups

Mad thing is the fight game in the UK is easily as good as I've ever known it right now .... probably better in depth of talent.

I wonder if BBC/ITV will ever screen live fights again.

Im actually surprised ITV didnt jump on Joshua and try and do a deal but I guess sky and matchrooms marriage fucked any chance of that happening.

Wonder if their were ever talks etc?

Thank fuck those aren't still the days. Imagine being told Froch-Groves II isn't being shown live anywhere.

Bruno was a huge star at the same time snooker players could get top ten singles in the charts. Obviously due to only having four channels. Back then we "watched" virtually every international fight through print. Fuck that. These days are fantastic for boxing.

Terrestrial TV wont make any difference to how huge Joshua will be if he goes to the top. They couldn't afford him anyway.
