Easy. Liakhovich. Not only was he a top 10er, but he was the WBO champion fresh off his spectacular victory over Lamon Brewster. Wow what a war that was.

Briggs scored one of the greatrest come-from-behind KO over Liakhovich to become the last, great American HW champion.

Yeah that was good of Briggs. He is still a great fighter and champion boxer but as you said, come from behind victory. It's just as likely Liakovich could have won a rematch with Briggs.

A shock KO like that is not as convincing to me of greatness than out-boxing an opponent thoroughly and scoring the KO win.

Prime Briggs would have been a good opponent for Wladimir but I don't think he brings anything much more to the table that LEapai does.

They say activity keeps you sharp but when you really think about it, fighting bums who pose zero resistance cant help you in any way. If anything, that can give you a false sense of security thinking that you are better than you really are.

Were you impressed by Shannon Briggs' recent run? U think those fights helped him hone his craft?

All these old school fighters you guys love to rave about fought these kind of competition while putting more mileage on the odometer unnecessarily..

Today's way of doing things are much better.. fight 3 times a year against quality foes and preserve the body for a longer career and better life after boxing..
They didn't fight three times a month because they loved the competition, they fought because they needed the money. I imagine there were some who liked the competition but not the majority.
As the money increased the number of fights went down. Now the fighters who like the competition fight as much as they can while the rest kick back and fight as little as possible. It's the money.

The money is a factor to be sure, but it's by no means the complete reason for inactivity.

In the modern sport, there is F/A money for a top level HW to destroy a mug club fighter. How many ppl are gonna purchase PPV subscriptions or pay ringside seats to see that shit these days?

No no no, you cannot have it both ways. It was established good form to be active back then, today it's regarded as stupidity! To beat up guys less than your own sparring partners are worth! lol

Ding ding And we only needed one finger, probably the one Wlad is giving Briggs. That's the one chief.

Briggs and 'great' never frequented the same room or the same comic book convention. Lets just keep it level. He has stretched those 15 minutes to absurdity and sponsored more cans than a soup kitchen.

It was established good form if you wanted to eat and ensure your children's future. Let's get real here, the majority of fighters never even get on a PPV card, especially the lower weight classes.
Back in the good old days, it was much worse, there was little money for anybody and those bums you were talking about were more than willing and grateful to get the work even if it meant an ass kicking.

This is Brigg's 3rd comeback, probably will be his last one... he always does this: loads up on canon fodder, as he says he will do, and then after about 2/maybe 3, fights, he jumps right into a top contender- no lesser than 5 on the rankings.

Be patient and let Briggs warm up the engine.... the Briggs Express is coming... sooner than you think!
