I was just making sure I wasn't going crazy. Steve weisfeld kept scoring rounds for Provo that I thought algieri clearly won. It was a close fight so I wouldn't have thought it would have been a bad decision either way but I'm just surprised that the judges weren't told before the fight that Provo is their guy so make sure he wins.
I had Algieri well ahead on rounds.
Not so much on pts due to the knockdowns.
Can't remember exactly but it was like 115-111 Algieri.
You say tomato,
‘n I say …… it correctly.
Ruslan should of never let him get out of the first
I had a problem with it.
The guy ran, stole some rounds (4 on my card) and landed some good pitter pat shots. Showed great heart.
But he did not win. He did not take Provodnikov's title.
He was dropped twice, repeatedly hit with clean, harder punches and forced to retreat, bouncing off all 4 corners for most of the fight.
Provodnikov won on my card. No doubt. And I'm not a big fan of the economical plodder.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
I had it a draw counting the knockdowns. Thought Algieri was gone in round two when they went back to their corners.
I had this at a glance cause I wasnt finger counting shots i saw clear i was just watching the thing but some rounds early i was thinking gee I could go either way here.

But hey wtf Algieri was scoring clean hard shots while going backwards all night thats whats people are having trouble with.
Anyway I have no problem with the decision as the dude has balls and a chin and is a smarter fighter, many in his position would have folded but he came on like Marquez did against Pac that time after going down early.
I thnk he'll do even better next time cause Ruslan is so open to an over hand right bomb all night long and that wasnt even touched on once due to Algieri moving backwards. But someone smart like Algeri is going see that on the replay and catch the plodding fucker coming in even harder next time.
Something I noticed, Algieri seemed a touch gun shy on right hand at times![]()
I just can't see it and I try to be as open as the next guy. Never hold pure boxing or backfoot against a guy at all but what I saw was a lot of stay alive skirmish boxing. Watch round 2 and tell me that was solid hit and get out ring control. That was smoke and leave me alone. Tons of half punching with tons of misses. In fairness to be expected as he did well to get out of 1st and needed to recover and did so. The kid rose up and battled brass balls, just as we have seen him do before, but just feel a slower Provo with even less output controlled and dictated more to win. If I watch round 7 over and over its basically the fight. Pressure by Provo, some decent jabs and rights bounce off him, Chris shifts his hands around and postures then gets moved and takes the harder more impacting lefts and bodywork and resets. Its a pick your poison kind of fight and fully appreciate the underdog battling tough and showing some poise and gameplan, but in no way can I see him taking more than 5 rounds with what that was vs the effect and damage Provo was able to show payoff for.
How do you get two 112-114 cards with a 117-109 card? How can the disparity be that wide the other way? That is a truck load of horse shit regardless of who the winner is. Is it a 10 point must system or isn't it? Who hit who more? Thats the bottom line not who came forward more or who's face was more marked up. What did you see? That 117-109 card is a freakin joke.
I'm sorry but I feel embarrassed for people who scored Prov winning the fight. Maybe at a push you could give him it by a round, but for instance the 117-109 was a disgrace.
It seems to point to mindless mauling and missing as a good thing.
A couple of the rounds you've given Prov he landed like no punches in, how do you give him those rounds?
It shows that some people appreciate guys who are one dimensional, with 0 technique, who can score a knockdown.
The only reason people made a case for him is because he gave you a knockdown in round one.
I'd bet my house that if he had not knocked Algieri down in round one you wouldn't have given him some of the later round he was given and Algieri would have won a land slide.
Algieri won the fight, clearly, with one eye, comeback after being down twice, as 7/2 underdog, to win a world title.
We should be concentrating on where this new found top level fighter goes next. He has made a big fan of me.

i gave algieri round 2 and 7-11. i felt that provo lost a ton of steam on his punches halfway through the fight and that the punches just werent landing as cleanly as before. algieri was very consistent during the fight. he basically did the same thing every round. each round mainly depended on whether or not provo could consistently land hard, clean shots. again, i had provo winning because of the knockdowns but it was a close fight either way and i dont think that either guy clearly won the fight.
114-113 Ruslan Provodnikov
