    Larry was knowledgeable, no doubt about it. But one of my main beefs with the guy was how he loved to hear himself talk. He would always insert this ridiculous pause before his grand pronouncements as if the entire boxing world was hanging by their nails waiting for His Majesty to speak. Later in his career, he was the same, but with a drunken, come-hither look on his smug face. He and Howard Cossell would've been a riot in front of the same camera.

    Cosell was one of the best! Merchant was a pontificating ass, in my pontificating opinion of course.

    Cosell gave drama to the sport.
