We need to start giving some of these modern fighters a bit more respect and realise that it really isn't cool to take punishment.

Sports science is way advanced now and the methods used in todays game in boxing including nutrition has moved forward from yesterday.

We all like to watch a good scrap but If I was a pro boxer I would prefer to be the smart one that dishes out the punishment and avoids and frustrates the hell out of any opponent by making them miss.

And we know the same tired excuse.."He was running"

Lol oh come on man, who is making excuses here? To question Durans legacy and then change this to a Floyd thread is just a wee bit comical. One wanted to fight everyone and the other didn't.
One fought anyone and the other didn't. Does anyone actually believe that Duran would not have fought Margarito? Does anyone actually believe that Duran would have waited 5 years to fight Manny and then bring us a dud of a fight? Would Duran have retired instead of honouring a rematch clause with Oscar?
Does anyone actually believe based on the FACTS that Floyd would have even fought Duran, Leonard, Hearns and Hagler? In Durans case, Floyd would have never went near the guy at 135 and would have side stepped, made excuses etc rather then fight any of them at 147. He would have never been a ppv/closed circuit cash cow in the eighties. You see in those days the risk came before the reward.

When you go on about giving modern fighters a bit more respect for fighting safety first, what do you mean exactly? Yes the idea is to hit and not get hit but its still a boxing match and its based on landing punches. Taking what you said to the extreme suggests they should cancel the sport. Seriously why have it at all? Another fact is that these modern day fighters have taken safety first to a whole different level.

Boxing fandom is generally divided into two groups. Those who never saw the Duran's, Arguello's, Leonard's, Hagler's, and Gomez's of the world....... and those who did. The ones who didn't only have the perspective of today's typical fighter, with all the off-the-ring paraphernalia that goes with it. As @IamInuit very well put, the safety first, the weight cheating, the Twitter wars..... it seems like today's fighter does more posturing and image-building through social media than actual fighting. Ducking is rampant and accepted. It's hilarious to see someone like Duran criticized by those who never actually followed his career. It's even more hilarious to see the "No Mas" and an obscure fight against Pat Lawlor as the basis for condemning one of history's greatest boxing warriors.

Lack of perspective is the most damning of disadvantages.

Oh please that’s not a response. Are you going to call me a hater next? I've went to bat for Floyd as much as anyone.

Floyd never faced anyone in his career at Durans level. That’s a fact and not an old man embellishing some yesteryear. The only 2 people he fought even close were Castillo and Hatton and he got a gift in one and had a pocketed ref in the other.

"Here we go" what? Somebody dares to bring some facts to the table and scrutinize Floyds services on an equal footing as those scrutinizing Durans and that’s a problem? What all time greats did Floyd fight let alone beat? And if he did beat one or two what were the circumstances? An investigation into boxing legacy does not change depending who we are talking about.

I agree Lil Floyd would be too loose for 135/140lbs Duran and would get caught and finished in the middle to late rounds, unless he has a proper ticker, in which case he would take a frightful beating in dropping the decision.
