agreed. wlad is all too willing to just hold these days. we all complained about ruiz for using such a negative approach. wlad should recieve similar critisism...
didnt look like holding to me. he was tying byrd up as he charged in (throwing kidney shots ). and twoards the end bryd was the one hanging on..........

    its like what merchant said,

vladdy just clinches and pushes off, ruiz grabs, holds... holds... holds... and gets broken by the ref

    also

vladdy punches and when his opponent gets inside he holds,

ruiz moves foreward with the intention of holding

watch a john ruiz fight and then a truely skilled fighter. there is a difference. when some guy is throwing bombs and you can get his arms in a position where he cant throw? thats not holding.

    What?

When you can get a guys arms into a position where he can't throw by HOLDING his arms that's not holding?

no way. he dosent hold ala john "the joke". he ties them up. smart move which is working.
He's not as bad as Ruiz, but he does hold too much these days, why hold Byrd who has no power and isn't even that good of an in fighter?Clinching shouldn't be legal, period. Boxing would be better off if a fighter was deducted a point the first time he clinched. Its boxing, its not holding.
He held Byrd the same reason Estrada held Shane Mosley. If you don't hold Byrd he will explode on you with combinations.

no man. wlad was getting under byrds arms so he couldnt throw. he wasnt hugging him like some long lost friend. and after a while he was just pushing bryd off. the rest is history.

the john ruiz comparison i made was a little strong but i used it just to frame how we dont like fighters who hold too frequently. wlad is definately holding more than he did a few years ago. significantly more so in fact.

its a tactic that ive no time for and it really shouldnt be tolerated....its bad for the sport...

Thats because Lampley and Merchent will not see anything negative Wladimer does unless he gets knocked out.

well they sure see alot of non-existant flaws in judah

i really dont see why people complain, half the times he clinched byrd had already wrapped on arm around vladdy to hit him with the other, which is holding and hitting

Getting under his arms so he couldn't throw

He was holding excessively, period. Ruiz is the worst no doubt, but Wlad in the last few fights has held whenever a guy gets inside, whether he holds a guys arm from the bottom up or not is irrelevant. He was holding Byrd so he couldn't throw punches, you admitted that yourself. How is holding a guys arms so he can't throw punches defensible?

Wlad's good but excessive holding, really any holding, should be penalized. I guess unless you're holding from underneath a guys arms

he wasnt excessive tho, he barley utilized the hold, and in the later rounds he didnt hold at all

this guy doesnt even hit on the break and he uses holding to his advantage

ON TOP OF IT ALL>>>>>>> he doesnt use holding to wear an opponent down

    THATS WHATS WRONG WITH HOLDING
the lennox lewis kind of leaning on people, wlad holds for defense
