It does not have to be brutally hard like a highlight reel shot to do the trick in that area especially when the guy weighed over 260. Cup your hand over your ear. That entire area can take the entire body out. As far as failing miserably that's a matter of opinion and not fact. As already stated many others including all time greats have been counted out and not simply waved off early in their career's regardless of how hard that punch is viewed. And again many of those kinds of shots dropped Wlad.
Look I'm not even a fan of the guy but I think many people including his own countrymen are being far to hard on him given all the circumstances. I'm guessing that many who write off the punch have never boxed without headgear and 1 pound gloves and I'm not pointing fingers at anyone because the same notion about the punch exists on every forum that I am aware of.
Philosophically this is why these freakin "0"'s are coveted so much is this bastardized interpretation of risk and reward world we live in. The moment you lose the thing and heaven forbid by any kind of stoppage regardless of the facts, you are thrown under the bus. David Price could just as easily become a better fighter because of this loss and go on to great success. Especially in this piss ant division. Armstrong lost 3 of his first 4 fights one of which put him right to sleep and several fights later to guy who was like 40 and 20. Point is this is not the end of the world by any means and in fact could be the measure of the man.
