I agree with Starr. The Vietnam war ultimately proved nothing and ended in a very costly stalemate (dare I say defeat? :P) for the U.S. and many people within the States were questioning the reasons why the US was there in the first place. I think it was a positive thing that Ali did not go to Vietnam...

If I was enlisted to go off and fight in a war that I thought was unjust and against my entire belief system then I would most probably refuse to go as well.....quite often governments are not expressing the popular will nor really giving a S*** about you....such is life...
See what I mean...you said if you were enlisted you would refuse to go to war if you disagreed..that's not how it works...it's funny that people think is wrong to send soldiers to war...listen that's a soldiers primary objective.. defend the country...period...not to seek out free money for college or whatever other capatilist agenda someone might have for joining the military...

Also if anyone has so many negative things say about their country whatever country that might be...the solution is very simple...GET THE FWOOK OUT!!!!

Because nobody in the government stops anybody from their pursuit of happiness...and if everyone really examined their on lives then they'd see that it is probably a self inflicted wound and not the government that's causing whatever trouble or discomfort that they think they're having with their lives...
It was a lot more then "I don't want to go because I don't like war" It was a lot more then that. And the way you talk about it, I'm guessing you don't know what the Vietnam War was about do you? Because it had nothing to do with defending the USA
Actually my father and two uncles fought in that damn war...so i know a little bit about what it was about...

yeah, a soldiers duty is to go to war when there is a demand for their presence. thats their proffesion...but being called up is a different thing.

Ali was a proffessional boxer. if he opposed going to the war then why should he go?? like i say if i was enlisted to go off and fight in a war that i really thought was unjust i would probably just say no as well. thats my free choice as a rational thinking human being. people have the right to make a stand if they vehemontly disagree with something. we dont owe our clumsy governments anything, especially not our lives if its something we dont particularly feel is justified.

and as for saying that people with nothing good to say about their country should just get out, well, thats overstepping it a little perhaps. people have the right to express free opinions and they should be able to do that in the comfort of their own country.
How convient is that...that like saying its okay to bad mouth your parents while you sleep in their house, behind locked doors...if someone doesn't like their country...and disagree with how its being ran by the government..then you should leave...frankly i don't give a shat what the government does..as long as when I out for my pursuit of happiness i don't get hit with a ICBM..

Yeah Ali wasn't anything but a mouth piece...and don't say black people..because I think he was nothing more than a big mouth fighter that talked his way out of the war...and trust me, its not that many black people that take Ali's philosophy that serious....

I still find it amazing that most "african americans" follow Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton...What the fuck have they ever done besides extort money from people?

YES it's extroting money, look NASCAR paid Jackson and do you see any black drivers or black owners

They follow the limelight to keep their careers going...I was surprised Jesse and Al weren't in Durham for the lacrosse scandle!

listen to the Bill Cosby ad and you can tell why I 100% agree with his views! He's a bit rough with how he conveys his message but it's a good one

well, many people do care about what their governments are doing, and so they should.....i reiterate people have the right to speak out against what they disagree with. the government has responsibilities and if it shirks those responsibilities then it is up to the public and media to pull it back into line....

you dont seem very politically astute to be honest. the government is not a benevolent force and to be frank it doesnt care 1 iota about you. you must be wary of such a power. welcoming an Orwellian state is a very naive thing to do.

in fact im british and i live in korea....you must think me very wise, for i do despise the ruling party of my native country and yet live soundly beyond its borders!

that's excellent...your actions speak much louder than your words...

And no I don't really consider myself a political person, but I'm not blind or naive either....I just don't concern myself with the conspiracy theories that might be going on within the government...

I'm too busy trying to continue to rich....

I guess you must've liked the movie "V for Vendetta"

To those who call Ali a draft dodger. what would it have proved to go? And do you know the real story behind it? Or do you just think it was "I don't wanna go so I'm not" oh we agree with you, don't. It was much much deeper then that.

the rhetoric was deep..but the motives were transparent..."I'm a world class fighter and i don't want to risk getting killed and lose all i've worked for"

    it's really that simple....

Kayne said "george bush don't like black people', but i didn't see his ass down in louisiana building houses either...stars talk all that shiit but rarely believe in it enough to follow up on it.....
