Never beg a 40 dollar hooker...specially after she's just turned down your mom's credit card!!
The RJJ that Tarver was beating was a fast-fading RJJ.
Hopkins may not be at the top of his game but he's not near as far down the other side of the hill as RJJ. Admittedly he "lost" two fights to Taylor (drew one and lost one closely, actually) and that was not the experience RJJ was having when he was losing. He was looking at the ceiling without having to crane his neck.
So - the fact that Tarver did well by RJJ doesn't mean a whole lot here. What is more to the point here is that Hopkins is, for the first time in a couple decades, stepping out from his accustomed fighting weight. He'll be fighting someone who has been a bigger fighter.
He'll get hit harder; that power will tax him more; his normal start-slow, shine-late approach may not fare well against a power-sapping attack from a bigger fighter. Yes Hopkins has good defense but that has been against folks smaller than Tarver. Will it hold here?
Go Hopkins! He's got the skill, but if he lost as he did to Taylor at his native 160, it is difficult to be confident of the outcome here.
I don't think he had to lose to Taylor, either time. Hopefully he has a different kind of hunger going for him this time out. That would certainly be a factor. Would be nice to watch him put on a punishing clinic and go out with a dazzling victory!
Agreed 100%.Originally Posted by brad4dboxer

Nothing wrong with facing reality though as far as our favorite fighters go.
I'd love to see Hopkins pull it out & just humiliate Tarver...but in the end...as much as I despise Tarver...he's the naturally bigger man, he's younger, & he's naturally most likely going to win.
I honestly don't want to see the outcome of the RJJ vs Badi Ajamu fight.

Umm...what? Roy winning the second? Tarver winning third and fourth? Fourth? They only had 3 fights and I think Tarver won 2 of them. The first I had Jones barely winning.Originally Posted by P.G.H Angel Eyes
I'm not sure if Hop can do it,I mean he should and could have beaten Taylor, the difference here is it is a move up in weight and how will he cope with the power? I soooooo want B-Hop to win but if he does not,can you imagine how big Tarver's mouth will be then? Soemone needs to knock him out! To be honest,Cotto's fight is on at the same time right and I think that fight will be much much more exciting than this one.
Can someone explain this shit to me?Originally Posted by P.G.H Angel Eyes

I still cant understand how losing two fights in a row qualifies you in getting a chance against the best light heavyweight in the world but B-Hops managed it . At this age and at this weight im not entirely sure he brings too much to the table but he still may have enough to beat Tarver
I expect B-hops concentration to be razor sharp . His workrate wont be high and he wont be physically dominatnt but it will be a very tactical approach from Bernard who will look to steal points without getting involved fighting from the outside .
Tarver wil press the fight in his usual lazy manner with the occasional eye catching flurry . His jab will command things and he will be the one coming forward as B-Hop cirlces . This makes the fight very close and likely to go 12 . The winner will be the man with the better stamina so its anyones guess between a guy whos naturally lazy with poor fitness and a 40 + year old 2 divisions above his natural . Intruiging indeed
I'd rather see Hopkins winning this than Tarver. At least Hopkins makes up rather interesting quotes. Tarver always seem to glorify himself. Sheesh.

Well, I think Hopkins does good against southpaws.
Hopkins frame is suitable for putting on a few pounds. He's 6"1.
B Hop has a rather short arm length at 23 inches.
Jermain Taylor has a reach of 27 inches, and Hopkins was able to nuetralize Taylors jab. Antonio Tarver has a reach of 25 and a half, so I don't think Hopkins will have trouble with any reach.
Tarver likes to get you and pound you against the ropes with combos, but Hopkins does better inside work than Tarver.
I say Hopkins by UD
