Margarito at WW is like Cotto at JW, a huge puncher shrinking himself down from the weight above where his power wouldnt be as overwhelming. (Cotto would still be powerful but the disparity wouldnt be as great when facing WW's)

The way Ricky won his fights before KT also has to come into play. Ray Olivera had never ever been stopped and hed been in many champoionship fights, Ricky stopped his ass. Vince Phillips was game, Magee was a good fighter before his accident, Ben Tackie was always known as a tough bastard above anything else. Abdullev shouldnt of been any trouble for Cotto, true he beat him in the amateurs but when I saw Abdullev fight in the pros, well he still looked like an amateur. And Paulie wasnt a boxer, he was just a speed merchant but I take the point.

One thing about if this fight came off at 147 man that Cotto would have to be careful of. Obviously its going to be less of a challenge getting under the weight, many fighters struggle in this situation as their training is therefore less intense. Cotto would have to be careful of this and should maybe take a warm up fight at WW to iron that problem out.
Diagree with Margarito,he does not struggle to make the weight at all, you'd think that but it's not the case and I think Cotto has the power to hurt anyone at 147,his beatings he hands out are just ferocious, but I do 10000000% agree with you about Margarito and FLoyd,I think my boy tony can and will hurt him, which is why Floyd does not want to fight..yet...Agreed,Cotto should take a warm up fight at 147 first, just to adapt but I have so much faith in the boy,he is a star in the making and with his MAssVE following,he ill get bigger and better. Hatton did beat those guys and they were tough but they(most) were old,Cotto's opponents were younger and hungrier and against Abdullaev, you could tell Miguel was enjoying the fight, lettin Mohaamed come in,fighting back foot, great counters and picking him off.

AC,you should come on more often bro,you make you points well and don't resort to foul language or weak points, all your points have relevance and are based on fact. By tHE way, please don't let my statements decieve you,I am a Hatton fan,I just like Cotto more and I was not impressed with Ricky's last performance but I still respect him and I merely use some of these points to defend Miguel, they are evenly matched but I can see Cotto picking him off, delightful counters,I just want Miguel to become more active. Also, the thread title,I don't think he's a pure banger as he likes to box too, just in the last few fights,he hs taken the role of te aggresor, before that,he was more of a thinking boxer.

I hate that everyone is talking down Cotto!

Cotto's chin? He has one, it's damn good too! His defense is what is suspect.

Why does he have a good chin? Look at the times he has been knocked down 1) It's always been MORE THAN ONE PUNCH 2) The punches have been absolutely FLUSH 3) He has never been KO'd 4) He comes back to KO the guys that hurt him or knocked him down

Cotto's offense might be onesided if you put him in with a runner but he hits hard and he hits often and at 147 he'll have better stamina.

His power is undenyable! He stopped Branco, he has fought more consistant top level competition than Hatton.

Hatton fought Tszyu.....and? I don't want to hate on Hatton but hehas fought more old top level fighters. I'd like to see him fight Torres.

Hatton has power, a chin, stamina, his offense is one sided too as we saw vs Collazo.

Cotto-Hatton is a good even match and anyone who says 1 or the other will absolutely dominate is just crazy!

CC brother, great posting. It's mainly Hatton nuthuggers and people who are arguing for arguments sake that are trying to down play Cotto's win.

I mean I like Hatton and all but his trouble doesn't come from being outslugged but being outboxed. Then again Collazo did seem to hurt him and I think if anyone was going to drop Hatton it would be Cotto.

And why is it that if someone has never been hurt in 40+ fights people just assume he has the heart and skill to deal with it. Cotto has tasted the canvas, and he always gets back up, he's had his heart tested and he has passed. In his 27 fights I think he has done more in proving himself than Ricky has done in his 40+ fights.

I like Hatton, I like the way he fights but like Calzaghe his level of opposition makes me worry and hesitate to pick him to beat other fighters.

Hatton's fast pace would be too much for Cotto.
    Mayweather boxes rings around Cotto.
    Cotto stops Castillo late on.

I am inclined to believe you that Cotto could hurt anyone at 147, but I made a lot of points before Hatton jumped up saying he would do this and that. Since then, Im more cautious and recognise the effect a weight class, even at the lower or middle end can have. If I had to say so, Id agree with you, just wanna reserve my judgement until he actually fights at WW.

Thanks man, Ive always thought you make great points as well. The way you focus on watching past fights and learning everything you dont know about rather than just spouting about it with no knowledge is a good thing to see. Im similar, a Hatton fan because I love his style and my fierce patriotism towards British fighters that arent named Audley. I like Cotto just as much as you probably like Hatton, hes a blood and guts fighter and thats what I love. The only thing Id like to see him change is his tendency to coast in middlish rounds. It didnt cost him last night in the end, but it could do in the future.

As a side note, Im no Mayweather hater, I admire and recognise every one of his acheivements. However I believe Hatton, Cotto and Margarito all have GREAT chances of beating Mayweather. All three have a better chance than ODLH IMO. Margarito is rangy and powerful and therefore Floyd will have problems even when on the perceived outside. Cotto's heart and power is matched with boxing skills that while not as good as Mayweather's, is close enough that his advantages power and heart can more than make up for that. And I still believe Ricky's relentless pressure, lion heart and style could undo Floyd. Of course Floyd could beat them all, no way am I discounting him, but these three all have good chances to beat him, definitely better than anyone else out there.

Shucks, thanks for the compliments bro and ditto for you,you use evidence,I like that and CC from earlier. I always thought Cotto could carry the weight better than Hatton,Cotto struggles more with 140 and I think it affects his stamina and punch resistance,I mean he looks ghoulish at weigh ins and that cannot be good!! I know it's a bold statement but I believe he can carry the weight well but like you said earlier,I'd advise him to take a warm up first,to see how he handles the weight.
Depending on if Ricky can handle 147,I still think PBF would beat him. His best bet would be to get Floyd@140 but I don't see that happeneing anymore. At the moment,I think PBF would dance around Cotto all night and win, although give Miguel a year and I'd give him a bigger chance and as for Tony,I will always maintain that he can give PBF hell.
Back to Cotto,I agree,I want to see him up his work rate, improve his stamina and land more sumptous combos.I think he will always coast, that's what he does,it's like Hatton always get head forward, you're never going to see the Hitman take a backward step even if it would be for his benefit"!

Without Cotto carrys the weight better you can see he much the bigger man his frame is huge, look at him compared to Paulie on saturday they looked 2/3 weight classes apart, but Hatton is stronger than Paulie by a country mile and Cotto may well be better at 147, but Cotto hasnt impressed me that much so far, also when the hell is Torres going to fight again?? So then we can really get a better idea of torres becasue i'll be honest i think he isnt as good as he looked in that fight against Cotto, just a gut feeling, but i really would love to see Cotto and Hatton fight it would be awesome.

Good points man, maybe its something in them you cant really change, it will always be an instinct thing, what theyre comfortable with. Maybe Cotto is actually bursting a lung to get those shots off early and needs to take a breather before he can go at it with those punches solid for a round. If he take that breather whilst staying on the outside and still outboxing the other fighter, he would never lose and never have to change his style, maybe the idea is to work with this flaw rather than against it (this could be what hes already doing, I dont know)

    Would CC you back for all these points, but if I keep saying CC in 24, Id be going for weeks so far... ;

I think Cotto has a decent chin, Torres is a devastating puncher, and he was connecting flush on target many a time. Cotto was kind of rocked but he ABSORBED the blow quite well. I think he has a good chin!

He certainly has the power to K.O Hatton, Mayweather and Castillo.

However i worry if he has the skill to beat PBF. Floyd seems a level above cotto in terms of skill, PBF actually has said that.

I think cotto has a chance to beat them three abovd, he certainly has a CHAMPIONS HEART!

Do you guys think Cotto could do well at 147 and do you think Hatton can get better there??

Excellent points brother,CC,exactly how I see it,Cotto took shots from a banger and came back aaaaaand the knockdown was a push.It does not show he has a weak chin at all, quite the opposite.I think what detractors mean to say and I agree,is that in that fight, his DEFENCE was poor, not his chin!

Torres took the fight on short notice against Cotto, but he had fought a month before (August 5) in Puerto Rico. I know because I was there. Thus, he was in shape. The night he fought, he defeated a Rican and for the first time fought outside of his country. The reason he was fighting in Puerto Rico was because he was supposed to fight Cotto in December after Cotto fought Branco. But Branco pulled out because of some injury, and Cotto hadnt fought since Abdullaev, so they decided to move Torres up to fight Cotto in Septmeber. Thus, Torres wasn't some bum who just picked up gloves a week ago and climbed into the ring with Cotto. However, I do agree that I am interested to see how Cotto deals with a puncher. Cotto has the versatility to fight going backwards (he has done it before), but his effectiveness all depends on his stamina. He should be in better physical shape at 147.

Cotto is not a banger? Hmm. Let's see. Cotto has a top, if not the top, body attack. That's what a banger does, correct? Hmm, what else? Cotto bangs his opponents in the face (Branco: broken jaw, broken arm. Malignaggi: Broken nose, broken orbital, broken jaw). If Cotto is not a banger then I dont know who is. This guy is dangerous!!
