No, you don't have to "take it away from the champ".
Every fighter's obligation begins and ends at winning the fight. Having to dismantle a champion to win a title is a silly myth that has been prepetuated by insular boxing pundits.
If a fighter wins the fight, by 1 round or by 12 rounds, he wins the fight, title and whatever other accolade. That is how it is. That is how boxing is scored. There is nothing in the rules to suggest that you need to destroy a champion to win a title. And any judge who scores in such a way should be banned from ever judging again, in my opinion.
