Why do people question Lewis ' chin, he has been caught with some unbelievanle shots and not wobbled, the 2 punches that floored him would've floored all bar 2 heavyweights in history imo![]()

I personally didn't think he beat Evander in the second fight(the first one was highway robbery though). Neither did Ring Magazine or the AP press. Nor did I think he beat Mercer. Not that it matters though. LL has just as good a resume of fighters if not better as Tyson/Holmes/Louis/Marciano/Dempsey. He is a very disciplined and very smart fighter. Plus he just knew how to fight tall very effectively. Other than the Mercer and VK fight you can argue he beat everybody put in front of him soundly(at least once). In regards to ATG status I include talent, opposition, and legacy. so here is where I rank LL ...tear it up at will
1.Jack Johnson
2.Ali
3.Joe Louis
4.Foreman
5.Holmes
6.Evander
7.LL
8.Frazier
9.Dempsey
10.Tyson
Honorable Mention: Marciano, Walcott, Charles, Patterson, Tunney, Liston.

I can agree with most of your list but Jack Johnson at number 1?Originally Posted by VanChilds
But him between Holmes and Evander and swap Frazier for Marciano and I would broadly agree
1.Joe Louis
2 Ali
3) Marciano
4.Holmes
5. Lennox
6.Foreman
7. Tyson
8. J Johnson
9. Holyfield
10. Tunney
Honorable Mention: Walcott, Dempsey, , Fraiser, Liston., John Ruiz, M.Spinks
I think J Johnson's skill is just woefully underrated. The guy carried fights for 20+ rounds just to make more money on the film rights. I know Marciano is undefeated, but his opponents are pretty weak even compared to some other HW's with the same issue. Mostly I just don't see him being able to beat any of the fighters you list other than MAYBE louis, tunney and dempsey. I'm going to ignore the John Ruiz and Spinks listings.

I feel that personally Lewis should be recognised from whe he beat Briggs cause Foreman had never offically retired before fighting Briggs. But at that point of time in boxing history you had to unify all 3 alphabet belts to be considered the undisputed champion.
The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be
Lets break this down to this: PRIME vs PRIME....who wins?
I say lewis would frustrate foreman with his jab all night and KO him in the later rounds.
ok,good post, to the point. no name calling, CC for mike.Originally Posted by mikeboxing

on the Lewis vs Foreman prime v prime debate....I don't think Lewis would be able to keep Foreman away with his jab. I think Foreman would be able to push LL around and make him brawl. 9th round KO for George.

I'd only question two;Originally Posted by VanChilds
Jack Johnson because it's hard to gauge that era of fighter and prime vs prime Jim Jeffries was clearly more dominant...Johnson was stopped by 5-2 fighters in his prime!...So I would re-think that one.
Tyson...other than being the youngest he has little legacy as a dominant champ...being thoroughly trashed by a "c" level douglas regardless of circumstances hardly can put him ahead of Marciano or Tunney...Tyson did not face the best of his era ala the rest you mention so he is clearly not an ATG...Mike Tyson had some great fights and showed flashes of greatness but never had the consistancy that makes an ATG...
