If you have no experience in wrestling/submissions, then I can see where you wouldn't find it entertaining, but I personally would rather see a good submission than a KO. Many of the sports hardcore fans have usually trained in wrestling or some othe martial art that focuses on submissions and where you see two guys rolling on the mat they see the science and skill envolved. Entertainment is purely subjective. Chuck has several options in front of him for future fights. There is the fight with Silva, a fight with Griffin, a rematch with Quinton Jackson and a fight with Rashad Evans. If UFC runs out of fighters they simply go out and sign somebody new, or use one of the Ultimate Fighter contestants.

Boxing is definitely in danger in the future IMO. I am in my early 20's and a lot of my friends know the names of Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Shamrock, etc; but mention any boxer other than DLH and maybe PBF and all I get is a black stare. I am really the only person I know who is a big fan of the sport.

I'm really not a big fan of UFC or MMA myself, I would take a good boxing match any day of the week. But UFC is a marketing machine and it's getting bigger and bigger and has a young, fresh fan base. Boxing's popularity is shrinking and the fan base is older.

I've seen a few articles over the years saying that UFC is becoming more popular than boxing and PPV numbers don't lie.

I think it's sad because imo boxing is a much better sport.

I'll take a good KO over a submission any day of the week. I've been watching UFC since the very first one, so I do know a thing or two about the sport. But like you said I don't have any expierence as a wrestler, nor did I take a martial art that focuses on submission. I can recognize submissions: arm bars, triangle chokes, kimoras, rear naked chokes etc. But I have not practiced them. And really do you think Forrest Griffin is a credible opponent? Could he beat Chuck? Evans I dunno anything about, or I'm drawin a blank. But Jackson rematch could be cool. Trust me that's not a lot of options though, IMO, its either Jackson or Silva.

I'm intrigued about all the hype around UFC/PRIDE/MMA etc. Can someone tell me a good place to start watching it? Recommend some fights? I don't think it'll overtake boxing simply because boxing is much bigger right?More boxers, morevariety, more possibilitys? Also,UFC matches are really short too!!

I think boxing needs an injection of real talent or the boxers with the real talent should fight each other more often to spark more life into the sport.

I like the politics that there is in the background of boxing it makes it more interesting come fight night. I'm not sure if the same long drawn-out sagas happen in UFC. Kids getting into fighting on the tely would get bored with that and are probably more interested in getting their quick fix of all out action on a regular basis.

I honestly believe UFC and cage fighting is worse that WWE !!

Those fights are even more predictable than HHH taking on Hulk Hogan !!

Why don't these fighters ever turn to real Boxing ?

Because they know that you need to be a real athlete with real discipline and real talent !!

    Its a good question !!

But does anyone believe that 50 Cent is a better musician than Richard Wagner or Motzart just becuase he sold more albums lst year ??

Lowest common denominaitor and all that .................

Andrei Arlovski, Fedor Emelianko: World Sambo Champions
BJ Penn, Noguiera: Brazilian Jujitsu Pan American and World Champions
Mirko Filipovic, Mark Hunt: World Kick Boxing Champions
Karo Parysian: Nationally ranked Judo practitioner
Jeff Monson: Abu Dhabi submission grappling champion
Randy Couture: Olympic Greco Roman Wrestler
Rulon Gardner: Olympic old medalist in freestyle wrestling.

This is just a small sampling of MMA fighters. But I think it makes your statement about them not being world class atheletes look rather silly.

Contender gave boxing a baby boost and a shot in the arm but it did not have the impact I was hoping it would. how right you are....another thing to be destroyed was the XFL....it was canned before it was even given a chance....the later games were great but people had already turned off the TV on it....

A good place to start would be with any Wanderlei Silva fights (All over fighter), Fedor Emilianenko (Awesome gnd n pnd), Cro Cop (Stand up / Kick boxing) or Chuck Liddell (Stand up & take down defense), Tito ortiz (Gnd N Pnd espec elbows).

Those fighters will give some idea of the more exiting fights but they are by no means the be all and end all, just look at takanori gomi (spelling?) or Sakuraba (slightly earlier in his career is better) for totally off the wall unpredictable and exiting fights.

As far a MMA (Which is what the sport is called. Calling MMA, UFC is like calling boxing WBO etc.. )taking over boxing i don't think it will happen. What will happen though is that MMA will get more popular than boxing and then big money will come into the MMA scene and it will probably then go the same way as boxing, I.E. politics etc..

Someone mentioned earlier that they enjoy the politics of boxing, well i can tell you that i don't!! (and i think i talk for 95% of the non 'fanatical' boxing fans here) I like the combat but not the bu11sh1t. I don't want to speculate what might happen if X from such and such a camp was to fight Y from that camp. WTF! We want to see these fights and are not interested in them until we do.

Also more and more people are getting educated to MMA now so fights that create a chorus of boos and hisses in the arena are not doing the same to people paying for DVDs and PPVs. These people are enjoying all aspects of the fighting from an educated perspective. The blood lust is (in the majority) WELL AND TRULY GONE from MMA. The problem that is perceived (at venues) is from drunks who simply want to see a scrap and are disappointed to find out it is a highly skilled competition.

    Cheers.

Wrestling is for fat homosexuals or at least closet Homosexuals.

I know Americans do it in Schools but honestly how can anyone get excited about scantily clad slightly overweight pre pubescent teenagers ..?

kick Boxing has more codes and organisations than Boxing i live next door to a world kick boxing champion for feck sake .

Randy Coutere and Matt Hughes would'nt last 2 seconds in a ring with a boxing world champion .
