The contenders were good on that show, but in the real world of championship boxing I am not sure alot of them can match up.
I don't care what anybody says. Manfredo is garbage and Calzcrappy is a fuckin coward if he takes this fight.
Where's that coming from. I don't believe for a second that fight'll get made. Taylor is still young and is the king of the middleweight division. Plus he still has unfinished business with Winky--which I guarantee you will get finished before he even thinks about Calzaghe. Much bigger fight. Why can't Calzaghe just fight Kessler? That's the fight everyone wants to see. Why is he even considering fighting this reality TV star (that couldn't even beat smaller guys to win his boxing TV show)?Originally Posted by Preme
Pffft, Calzaghe's manager and promoter Frank Warren has essentially said that he is looking to make Joe Calzaghe a star in the United States. And let's face it, fighting Mafredo will allow Calzaghe to be an easy victor over a reality TV wannabe. If he wins, then he's another step closer to that 25 defence record he wants. As for Taylor, it would sell PPv by the bucketload an both sides of the continent, and I think it would make for a very good fight. Even if I believe that Calzaghe's dominance at SMW will continue, whatever WW of JT can do.Originally Posted by shza
Taylor isnt that big of a name either. There are really no big huge names that Joe is going to get. B-hop? No. ODLH? No. RJJ is about it and he is shot and we all know it.Originally Posted by superheavyrhun
Dude, at the end of the day, a fighter can only beat what is put in front of him by a manager like Farank Warren. At the end of the day, his interest is simply in preserving his boxer, and in ensuring that his favourite son does not lose his undefeated record, and step into obsoleteness because of that. FW won't let his boy become a nobody, but then again, he won't let JC fight his best oppnent until it happens that JC is the best there was, the best there is adn the best that there ever will be at SMW.Originally Posted by 1st rd ko
Im sure you mean good and all, but why wont he fight Kessler then? He took on Lacy so why be so worried about Kess. Its not like Joe can fight forever. And if he loses to Manfredo? What will you think then?Originally Posted by superheavyrhun
Dude, Calzaghe will not fight forever, same as everone else won't. I'm convinced that Joe C won't fight Kess simply because FW will hve tell him that it is his duty to fight an American, then beat whomever steps up on an American front, and to destroy everyone else in his path. I see Calzaghe winnning at a cruise against MK, but it is up tro him to prove that he is worthy of a world title shot by the champ. In honesty, Kessler should run. Run hard, run fast, and hide those belts in a rundown bunker. Whatever it takes doode!Originally Posted by 1st rd ko
I dont get your logic. Duty to fight an American? What are you talking about?Originally Posted by superheavyrhun
people seem to forget that no matter who calzaghe calls out ect its the promoters that make the fights calzaghe has no real say neither does any fighter they can demand doesnt mean they will get it though because its not up to them
So your conclusion is, that Calzaghe is just sooooo damn good, that he doesn't need to prove himself at all. And it doesn't matter at all that you've got another, younger, undefeated, two-belt champ in the division. Calzaghe's dominance is simply beyond question?Originally Posted by superheavyrhun
How did Calzaghe ever achieve that status? I can't imagine any other champ, in any other division, where given similar circumstances, ppl would just say - "no need for a unification fight, 'coz one guy has already proven himself beyond doubt".
I agree with you that Warren is most likely holding back (though i've seen nothing to indicate Calzaghe would have wanted it differently). But that doesn't mean i have to respect it or applaud it.
I don't believe for a sec, that Calzaghe has no say in it at all.Originally Posted by ICE COLD BOXING
I'm not convinced that Calzaghe has that much of a say in it really, he's just doing his job, workng for FW and getting paid for it. At the end of the day, like most other employees, he will do what he is told and fight similarly. Well, it is my view that Calzaghe, by force of experience and length of reign, is the dominant force. I'd like to see him fight Kessler, as I think it would make his legacy unbreakable, but it doesn't have to be the very next fight.Originally Posted by dumdane
I agree with most of what you have written, except for Joe C. not having to fight Kess next. Joe has said that he only will fight another 3 or 4 times then he will retire. IMO a fighter like Joe needs to go out in style, unify and take on the type of opposition that will solidify his legacy. At this point he has used up any type of "tune up" fights.Originally Posted by superheavyrhun
