B Hop didn't show the old sharpness IMO, though he showed he's still the master at pick and run. Anyhow, glad to see the post forty- Bhop wants some live opposition and not the old man of russian boxing Oleg Maskaev. It'll be a decent fight if it happens, with Calzaghe grabbing a wide UD for me.
I know, he definitely slapped Lacy quite a bit. I don't care enough about this to really get into it, but it's a little silly for you to degrade Hopkins' win over the linear champion of a division two above the one Hopkins fought in for the past decade by saying Tarver looked sluggish while praising Calzaghe's win over a much more "sluggish" (and never proven in the first place) Jeff Lacy. Look, Calzaghe might be able to beat (the 41-year-old-version-of) Hopkins, but I'd need to see it happen first. The fact is that Calzaghe's never fought anyone of remotely that level before, so we really have no idea how he'd perform. It would be a huge step up for him.
In my view Lacy tried to make a fist of it (terrible pun), he was throwing punches and trying to come forward, but the lateral movement by Calzaghe took him out of the way, but in the Tarver fight, he wasn't coming forward with any intent, and not doing anything at all to try and trouble Bhop. Lacy came to fight and win, although was outclassed, while Tarver came to make money, and was happy enough to let Bhop pick and move, and settled for a points loss early on. Granted, a fight v Bhop will be a step into the unknown for him, simply because no-one of Bhop's class throughout a career has been at SMW during Calzaghe's reign.

Even at Hopkins age, he's a genetic freak and a real old school fighter. Calzaghe most impressive win was against a highly trumped but woefully unpolished Jeff Lacy.
I doubt Joe would ever want to get in the ring with Hopkins; just too much to lose.

Just answer this though: True or False, Antonio Tarver is far more proven, and a much better fighter, than Jeff Lacy. I don't think anyone can deny that's true. Even on his bad night against B-Hop, Tarver looked levels above what Lacy looked like against Calzaghe. Lacy basically alternated between standing there and getting hit, and walking forward without throwing any punches--and getting hit. I'd like to see Lacy's punchcount for that fight. It seemed like he threw about 100 punches total.

Anyway, I'll end it like this: agreed that B-Hop vs. Calzaghe would be an interesting fight, even with B-Hop as an old man. I'd very much like to see it.

Man, between you me and Calzaghe we have usselves a fair debate don't we. I'll let it lie, but have a cc for putting forward a fair and balanced argument, and if this fight comes off, i'll getcha a beer at ringside *

(* - this obviously is dependent on you finding yourself, and me ringside tickets....)
